Merc 496 vs. 496 H.O

I am sure this has been answered before I am just short on time to read through the numerous threads.
Anyhow what is the difference between:
Mercruiser 496 Mag 375HP
Mercruiser 496 H.O. 425 HP?
obviously it has 50 more HP :idea:
I haven't been able to find any substantial information except the H.O. turns about 400 more RPM's.
Also any input on inexpensive ways to add some HP to the 375HP Thanks in advance for any information.

Seems like a slight rocker and stud change would be my cheapest way to gain a few HP.
