What's the latest theory on thermostat bypass kits? Are they still recommended or is there a better alternative? I have a 2001 Ultra with a jet drive and stock 454. Thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing.. I have a BBF pretty much stock 460.. When I bought the boat it didn't have a thermostat in it.. I put a 160 deg stat since I heard somewhere that not having one could actually make the motor run too cool?? But, I'm a newb so I don't know for sure.. :rollside:

Right, with pumping cold water (50-80F) in at 100% (gate valve) you can have a problem keeping your engine at running temp (say 160-200F) because the cold water is in constant flow pulling too much heat out.

I have the Rex thermostat on my boat now and I had it on my previous boat. I would recommend it to anyone with a jet.

Ditto...mine works GREAT and, with 2-dumps out of the engine never more than 12 psi pressure.
PS. got mine from REX
