H2O - Full Throttle

If any of you have ever wondered what its like to race around a jetsprint track in a 1000hp Superboat then check out this video. This is American superboat competitor Tom Nelson in a borrowed boat setting the fastest time of the day.
Accelerates up to just under 100mph in less than 3 seconds and G forces up to 8g going around the corners. The Superboats push 30,000 litres of water through an 8 and a half inch nozzle per minute.

Those boats seem to run really wet. I would guess to keep the handling. Wonder what that boat would do trimed up.

Thats the navigators job and if Im not mistaken they don't know the pattern thru the course untill shortly before the races start. Alot of skill in getting driver/nav coordination down. Its bad enough in a whitewater race never mind in that hairy 1 min event lol Ever wonder what 1000 Hp was like in a 13 foot boat, there ya go!
Cheers

I'm not an expert, but I would guess that if you aired those things out you would never get around that course. Short boat + bow steer is what lets them turn like that.

So the navigator finds out the course layout right before they start?!?
Damn I can't even remember where I put my sunglasses half the time.

Are the boats that run the rapids the same as these? They look similar.

sure they are set up for cornering. The question is really what would it be like loosened up in a strieght line. bet they are real quick. How about a diverter that automatically turns down when you turn the wheel and then when you return to center it lifts. Automatic varible diverter. Fast in the streight corners quick.

If you watch them live you'll see that there isn't time for trimming. An auto system might have some kind of slight advantage but even in the straights they are really turning to set up for the next corner so there isn't really much of an opportunity to air it out. These races are won in the corners. Many times a boat with less power but better cornering setup will run much quicker.

The river boats would generally have a hard time getting on plane with their setup by the time they came to the first corner.........

They are both aluminum. Thats about it. I can tell you a 13 footer with a BBC and AMT pump is a hand full.

The motor is great. I have to give Chris Straub from Stef's Performance Products Inc. A huge thanks He did the cam and heads. The thing is a monster. I think I have alot of people covered to the low 80S. The boat, motor, oil and fuel ended up at 960 LBS  Close to a square ratio

I think some of it may be my thin can hull. Whatcha putting together? I have a bunch of questions for you as I have been changing things for better straight line performance. Maby a couple of fishing trips down south this year.

Well, shamefully enough it isn't running. I built another motor last year after melting some pistons. I dyno'ed it and dropped it in the boat and never even put the carb back on till last weekend. Been using the fishin boat fer fishin with the kids but now they want the beast back and running so hopefully I'll put er in the water in a week or two and see how she does.
Its unbelievable how big a honey bee nest can be made under the floor in 1 years time.... and my son payed for it when he discovered it. :220v:
Look who came out of hiding......How is the ford powered beast runnin?

100?? Thats definitely delivering the mail. I've been up at lucky peak and passed one of these in my boat and my boat won't do 100!! Seemed like they were doing 80 or so.
Maybe it was a weak sprint boat. Hmmmmm. You gonna be at Marsing this weekend?? Good luck if you're racing.
I would have gone but, I'm loaded up and headed to St. Anthony's in about 2 hours.
