is the 454 mag like a 6.2 (320hp) Im guessing do you know the horsepower on it. The chart tells me with a closed bow 55 to 60

With my 98 Eagle with a 502 we were getting 68 on a 28" prop but lousy out of the hole. Changed to a 26" and gets maybe 62 but good out of the hole.

Thats a pretty big HP diffrence between 454 and 502

Yep, it's a 320 hp 454, thought for sure the bravo 1 would help, but the only good thing about that prop, it doesn't cavitate anymore. And the weird thing, it's about the same on the holeshot. Sounds like this is all it's got huh, plus I'm at 3000' :)

If memory serves, there was the 7.4/454 MPI (310HP) and the 454 Mag (375HP). These numbers were near sea-level; and brand new. A few hundred hours and at 3000', you are probably talking 300-310HP out of your 375 horse magnum. That speed seem about right, I would say you are maxed.

So I'm probably about maxed, huh........okay, was hoping for a little better, but that's life. Thanks for the help.

The altitude will greatly reduce your power, even with fuel infection.
What RPM are you getting?? If you can't get 4900-5000 RPM, you need to go to a lower pitched prop.

Put some chrome on it for another 10mph and don't forget headers they are good for 5...... :argue:

I hate to say it, but with a 454, I think you will be lucky to break 60!!!
Its a heavy boat!
I have the same hull with a 502mag. I have a 26 pitch and its works great, but I'm not sure how a 454 would match up.???

I have a suggestion for you!!! I lived in the Wasatch mountains of UTAH for four years and my boat was a dog up there. I reset the timing a few degrees more advanced and it made the boat run better at that altitude. I picked up 3 or 4 mph when I did. You might just check the timing and see where it currently is! 10 year old motor with 300-400 hours on it the timing chain could have stretched some and you might have lost a few degrees of timing right there. Some people here may diasagree with that but it worked out great on my applciation. 24' hallett open bow!
My .02 worth. Most of the time at sea level I will set the total timing at 32* but up there I was ruinning a total of 36* timing at 3200 rpm all of it came in. made a BIG difference getting out of the whole too.
I sold the boat maybe 6 years ago and the guy I sold it to still runs it up there, He has called me a few times over the years to tell me it is still running hard. Good luck and if you need anything else feel free to PM me!

Get thru hull exhaust and you will pick up 5 MPH, easily! :p

I have thru hull exhaust, and the timing is at 34*. I'm only spiining around 4900 at 3000 here in So Utah, and at Powell, kill sit alittle more. I mean, I can live with it, just wondering.

454 Mag = 385 HP 502 = 415 HP
One K&N Air Filter = 5 - 10 HP..
Not really a "huge" difference between the two motors Nord. ;)
Incidentally He's got a 25 Elim.
As well if you Propped your boat up a little (28 pitch) Or really just ran the shit out of that 26, I think you'd find your boat is alot faster top end then your thinking it is. You never run your boat that hard to find out, but I'd bet it's clipping mid 70's as it's setup now.
RD
From what I understan over at Eliminator, its the same Hull RD........
I tried a 28 and didn't see a big jump in speed so I stayed with the 26.
You really think one K&N filter gives between 5-10 donkeys???

I have the same 96 Eagle open bow as you. I ran a 24 pitch B-1 last weekend at Havasu to 64 mph at 4800 rpm or so with full tanks, 4 adults and 2 kids onboard. The 22 pitch B-1 turns 5100 rpm at 65 mph. My best speed is with the trim in the middle of the guage. You can feel the boat "loosen" up when it is right.
I think the problem you are having has to do alot with the altitude. The 454 mag carbureted is 365hp. The fuel injected 454 mag is 385hp. Have you done a leak down test on the engine? Mine had burned exhaust valves at about 300 hrs. I also run 36* advance with the stock T-Bolt V ignition.
Good luck.

This motor only has about 35 hrs on it, so it's not a problem with low compression. I think it's just a little bit of a slug. I like the boat, but I do wish it was an open bow, it's not though.
