You may remember the big hole I cut in the hydro http://www.***boat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41826&highlight=Jethydro
Here's the newest project.
Testing will start this week.
Last ran the boat only did 55.
This boat has a delta bottom so it`s gonna take some time to get the set-up right but I`m sure we`ll see a big improvement right from the get-go.
I love to take on these projects. "Yes" you are seeing it right, We took out a JE and replaced it with a JC.
This boat has a 350 SBC in it :crossx: :argue:

I knew you wanted to see one done so I posted this one for ya.
I still havent done the SJ because now I need another pump as I had the boat sold but the buyer never showed with the money. I sold the pump I bought for the SJ to a friend because the buyer didnt want to do the change out. Now I`m back to a lake boat that needs a pump...lol..
Anyway, now you can see what it takes to do the job. :)
P.S. I forgot to say that we will start the testing with the berk bowl that's on it now but we do have an Aggressor 9 vane on the way. We have an Aggressor impeller that I had Duane cut to a C.

So why go to a JC from JE? Is there a horsepower reason or do you just like the JC better?

Jet Hydro
06-05-2006, 10:01 AM
The "JE" has no tuning ability and has a small intake opening as it`s an insert pump not intended for speed but more as a sky boat.
You could say that the JC has more options for tuning and will take on more water.

Taylorman
06-05-2006, 10:35 AM
Did you have to move the motor at all for the new pump?

Jet Hydro
06-05-2006, 10:40 AM
Yes
up about 1/4" and back about a 1/2"
but I`m sure it can be done where ever your motor is setting now. We just wanted to try a few things.

Duane HTP
06-05-2006, 05:49 PM
The JC or JG pump with a full blown intake loads the pump so much better at speed than the Econo series pump does. We just did the same thing to an SJ Taylor last week that is getting a Blown BBC. We also made the bottom round and installed one of our 5 degree low profile race intakes with shoe and ride plate. The jury is still out on the results on that one too. When the customer gets the engine installed, we are going to try to set up the hardware for him. We'll post results too.

Alright, this thread has to end now. I've spent a ton of money on my boat this winter and so far this summer, i don't need any more ideas for changes.

Ok, the first time out we got 11mph. Now remember we were at 55 the last time out with the JE pump and the 350sbc

isn't the speed limit towing a boat 55 in Kansas?

Is this with the same motor?

Jet Hydro
06-07-2006, 11:30 AM
Yes that was the same 350 Chevy.
The boat was real wet so we plan to try a wedge change among other changes. We only had 5000rpm`s so I`m gonna try a blocker loader and see if we can get the rpm`s up where they need to be. If the loader doesn't work then we`ll cut the impeller one more time.
The owner was really happy with the out come and really happy when I told him 70mph was not going to be a problem as that 66.2 was just right out of the shop with no tuning.

I have a baja just like that one. I glad to see this post. I will have some mods to look forward to in the future. It looks pretty straight forward. If you have additional pics, please send some to my email at rldanchak@yahoo.com

Ps Hey Lucky, I like my windshield also and won't hack it off.

Randy
we will post most if not all the pictures and info for ya.
I wish I would have kept this Baja when I got it in on trade 2 years ago and sold the owner my SJ. I kinda like the looks of the baja. The guy that was trading it in sent me pictures in an e mail and the new owner was standing there asking me How much ....errrr
Wish I would have seen it in person before I resold it.

Duane HTP
06-07-2006, 06:46 PM
Be careful with that Baja. It has a different bottom on it than a Taylor does. They were not really designed for a jet, even though some came with them. Those boats do NOT take to speed well with a jet in them. Just ask Texas Jet here on the boards if you need more information. He has some first hand experience.

Jet Hydro
06-07-2006, 07:05 PM
Last night it was like riding on the interstate, couldn't have asked for a better ride. I feel safe taking this boat to 70. After we hit 70 we`ll see how that feels and if all is good we`ll take it up a notch or two. I did my bottom a little different then the one on Texas Jet`s boat. You know me Duane, I always go for broke and go the extra mile if I have too! I've always Gotta prove something can be done and done safe.

He has a Baja with an open bow which now has 700 hp in it. Im sure he will be pushing 75+ now. Well see him this weekend.

Will do Duane.
We are gonna do some more testing this weekend and see where we go. I made some changes that I think might give him that other 4mph? I need to stop by and get a nut for that cable seal and maybe pick up a new cable while I`m at it.
Any word on the new Aggressor Bowl and stuffer?

Jet Hydro
06-09-2006, 07:23 PM

Good Job. I enjoyed most posts---- We know who the Good, the Bad,and the Ugly are in that story. :)

"No" it`s not one of my IMCA Motors but it was in a stock car for a short time before the trans plant :220v: The owner retired from dirt track racing and went to Jet Boats like I did

383 is an A at 4900, B at 5400
350 is an A at 4400, B at 4800
311 is a C/D at 6600(rev limiter set)
No loaders, blockers, spoons, just a rock grate.

We have an Aggressor C at 5200rpm`s. He wants to see 6000 so it might take a 1/2 size cut or better to get it there?

That is an Aggressor C/D on the 311. if he wants 6000 he needs more power, I'm cavatating at anything more than 6600 and breaking parts.

06-12-2006, 12:11 PM
ok let me ask this.............
Why would you use this much wedge on a low profile intake? Im just curious to see why we have so many bends in the waterflow.I know duane can answer this for me. I just never asked him when I spoke to him on the phone;)

396 I don't think they have ran that boat yet?
I have an SJ with a drop and it takes 4 degree of wedge with my race nozzle. The SJ`s have some weight to em so I`m sure he`ll need some lift to get the nose up off the water?

He cavatating on the hole shot so I really don't want to cut the impeller anymore. We plan to take it off gas and try some alky for a few runs to see if he can get some more power out of what he's got. I believe 71 to 74 is about all we are gonna see with the motor he`s got. On a good note, that will put him in the RR Class running those big blocks down. :220v: :)

Does the cavitation change with more impeller? How heavy is that boat? Where is the balance point? I can flat foot it from nuthin without any slip and pull a few more MPH on the top as well with the 383 or the 350.... with any of the impellers. That thing looked pretty flat in the pics....more wedge?
71 to 74 and you can be competitive in the RR class????????? That would take a stock ZZ4 on pump gas with out emptying the boat out

Jet Hydro
06-12-2006, 04:44 PM
yea most boats have to run around 72 to be competitive but that`s with a Big Block so that's with more weight in the rear of the boat. With the small block I`m thinking it could take less mph to be competitive??
We had a 4 degree wedge in it and dropped to a 3 and got 1 more mph. it rides real flat and it`s driving me nutzzzzzzzzzz. I cant get the nose up to save my a$$. I`m thinking about trying it with out the ride plate. Something is keeping it down???? :220v:

canuck1
06-12-2006, 04:55 PM
My guess is that the hull is fairly straight that is nose heavy
what angle on the ride plate?

Jet Hydro
06-12-2006, 07:20 PM
I`m not sure at how much up-degree it`s set at but it`s a bunch.I`m gonna say it`s around 10 degree up right now. I need to set the boat up and check it again. We have moved it up till I had to cut the yoke off and drill new holes to only have the same ride we had before. I`m thinking it might be to long?? Every time we take off it`s nose up but when it takes a set, it`s level again. I need him to make a pass close enough where I can see how much boat is in the water. It could be the back cut shoe causing the problem too?? I`m sure we`ll find something sooner or latter...lol...

We finally got to run it today. First trip to the lake, it ran 83 mph. After hooking up the computer and looking at everything, we took it back and adjusted the degree of the shoe, ride plate and made a loader change. Then back to the lake. 86 MPH. We worked on it until dark, just tweaking and adjusting. Last run of the day was 92.6 MPH @ 5350 RPM running an Aggressor A impeller & an inducer along with a Snoot with a diverter, on a low profile 5 degree intake.

Help me understand what I am missing here. The compound of 4 or 5 Degrees intake time the length plus the 1 inch drop in the Droop @ thrust point should lift that bottom and decrease the wetted surface @ tail. Im lost in the above compound picture. Dave!

Jet Hydro

Duane HTP

Best guess would be to look at an aggressor impeller chart and see where 5350 RPM hits the scale with an Agg "A" impeller. I'm at the lake for the week end and don't have one available.

Jet Hydro
06-16-2006, 07:13 PM
581.5 HP if I`m doing it right, the SJ with the blown big block.
381.0 hp in the Baja with the small block.
I used the JPC.
Duane I`m doing some bottom work on the hydro so it`s gonna be later on in the week before I get to test but I`ll let you know when so we can get it hook up before hand.
I have a feeling that I`m gonna need a cable for the steering as it`s gotten stiff.
We picked up the bowl for the Baja tonight.

The diverter should help a lot as you need to get more boat out of the water. I`m sure you`ll see some improvements
On the 3rd the water laid down FLAT believe it or not for about 1 hour. No boats and not even any jet ski`s got in our way.. I got to make 2 flat footed passes..
