this is the 35 yr old yamaha japanese fishing boat design
first off i want to confirm that it would be described as a tunneled mod v
or is it a mod v with twin skegs/straits?
or a fancy sampan
POS is a maybe.. too
if you have any thought on the hull i would like to hear them
thanks a lot

Definitely not a mod VP boat at all. V bottom with a sort of delta pad on the bottom. Never seen that design before.

Don't think there is a name for that hull design other than modified V. Looks like it will ride pretty stable for the speed it's designed for.

It's called a Notch-V. The notch in the bottom is to keep the outboard wet and give the boat stability at what they called high speed. Works good under 50.

thanks for your input.. the design is unusual
it may even have its origins in asian designed boats
i have had a look around the net but cant seem to find much about this shape
the fishing forums seem to be deep v or nothing and i though your group may have more input
the history of it seems to be that in the 70's, world bank wanted a fishing boat for the 3rd world, yamaha had their ear, designed this one and sold their motors too
it is made around the world by many builders
the criteria was
easily built, beach launched, easily driven by a smaller motor, good seakeeping and carry a load, its normally tiller steered
this is what they came up with, its 5'6' beam at water line by 22', but it normally has an upswept stern, this one has been modified to square, panga.com is an example of the original stern
