I have a client with a 1977 Sanger Jet that needs some insurance for his boat. It's under 500hp. Any suggestions? Farmers said, "thanks for your business, but we won't insure your boat."

tell him to put some TT headers on it. I couldn't get insurance on my boat with logs and OT pipes attached to them. I put TT headers on and now have full coverage including a $10K replacement value for $220.00 a year.

A couple years ago I was looking to change insurance companies and I first tried the company I had my Sea Doo with Sate Farm, they said yes until they received my picture of my boat with over the transom headers. Next I called Progressive they said Ok but my HP was closer to 200 back then. :) Now that I am a little further from 200 HP I am looking to go with AAA they said it shouldn’t be a problem. But they will send out someone to look at your boat I am scheduled to have someone come out it late June. We will see.

78Southwind, whom are you insured with now?
I had a broker hook me up but after 3 years with the same insurer, I got a refund check with the cancellation. OT headers. They said to many burn claims. I was paying 505 a year. Would be nice to have insurance again.

I have mentioned this every time this question comes up for the last two years. American Family Ins. will insure OT headers with no questions asked. Their only concern is the top speed of the boat being 70mph or under. And since they are not going to go out to the lake with you and radar it, a little fudging ain't gonna hurt. My annual premium is $322.00 and that is with $500,000.00 in liability and all my accessories including the trailer covered out the ying yang.
