I want to do some target shooting with a pellet gun pistol. I have no clue about what would be a good one. Big 5 has on for $ 99.00, 360 fps, .177, co2. Anyone know anything about pellet pistols ?

Sure, I have 4 pistols and 2 1500fps rifles. Depends on what you plan on doing with it. Personally I shoot at bunny's that eat our jasmine plants. Most of the time it's a stinger shot.

I've always liked the pump type over the co2 just for the reason that every shot can have the same velocity. Downfall is it's basically a single shot deal.
here's the one I have-

The .177 caliber pneumatic airgun air pistol features an improved single action bolt design for easier cocking and loading, a rifled steel barrel for accuracy and an easy pump forearm for variable pump power for increased velocity control. This is one serious Crosman airgun.

My boy is training with one of these before getting a real shotgun or rifle....
It's been a good air rifle.....

That's a good point Cas. Again, it really depends on the type of use. I only have 2 Crossman CO2 revolvers and they work fine for targets.
I really like the CO2 pistols made by RWS and Walther. My RWS 5G Mag is heavy and very easy to use on still targets or critters. My Walther CP88 is equally as nice, but doesn't have the same feel.
Now rifles are another animal. I love my 2 Gamo's Those suckers are badass. Heavy duty spring loaded single shots. They actually pack a kick.

Rifles are definitely a whole other deal! What I used to like doing is filling plastic coke bottles or milk cartons with a clear gelatin and use them for target practice. You can really tell what the different type of pellets do upon impact.
I think the Gamo's you have are more powerful than the Crosman Quest I had was. It was at 1000 fps but was still pretty damn powerful for an airgun. That's the other thing I like about that pistol...600fps :)

I have been shooting with pellet rifles for years. In the Teams, we would train new guys who weren't getting the hang of "don't flinch" with my rifles in the barracks at night. They really do a great job helping develop great skills as a shooter.
That being said, I only shoot Beeman rifles. I have an R7 for plinking and trips and a Kodiak for varminting. (We were taking out crows on a radar tower that were eating cabling and other stuff from damn near 75 yards with it).
The R7 is the best gun I have ever shot. Lightweight, simple and reliable. Single shot, break barrel. 700 fps velocity and .177 round. Right around $350 or so new.
The Kodiak is unhinged. It is a .22 for onewith nearly double the grain size on the pellet than the .177 but it shoots at 850+ fps. That is damn near powder-gun velocities. Plus, it is gorgeous. Not cheap at over $700, but worth it IMO if you are taking out vermin.
I love air guns...

Whats the cost of something like that, the friggin rabbits eat the hell out of the pigmy palms and the lantana's to the point of killing them. My yard looks like a rabbit coup what with all the cages to protect the plants. Can they be set so as not to kill the little bastards (wifey would have a fit) I gotta do something  NSF

That's why I use the Gamo with flat head pellets and aim for the rear body. It stuns them really good. It's pretty funny to watch a rabbit go 6' vertical :rollside: . My rabbit population has decreased in the last couple months.

Thanks Cas. Are they a varibile pump? Price is pretty cheap, pygmy palms are expensive and how about the neighbors frikken prison break 1,000,000,000 candle power halogen light over his garage that lights up the entire north side of town. NSF

minimum 2 pumps and max 12. At 2 pumps, you can pretty much see the pellet leave the barrel and follow it to it's target. 4 pumps will make a cat jump about 4' in the air as it's exitting your boat :D

Not into the air pistols but agree that pump is better than Co2. I have several rifles. A National Match Crosman 6500 single shot barrel break .177 cal. The other is a Benjamin Sheridan pump .22 cal that I think is one of the best production air rifles ever made in the $100-$125 range. It is a great starter rifle for boys and young men. The balance and weight is the same as a .22 rimfire or smaller 16 GA shotgun. Big 5 pricing is hard to beat in the gun dept. especially when they run their sales. For a wider range of guns look at www.cheaperthandirt.com . They have a lot to choose from. Good luck .

The targets I'm thinking about shooting are the crows that land in our trees every morning and squawk and crap all over my concrete. Will one of those 60 dollar crossman pistols do the job on a crow? And I don't want to wound him so does it have to be a head shot ?

I prefer using my Ruger 10/22 with CCI-CBcaps. The round is more quite than a pellet gun in most cases. If you must go with AIR, GO GAMO. IMHO.

The 10-22 is not my first choice in this neighborhood, although more effective I'm sure. Especially with my 50 rnd clip.

yes, the 1377 has more than enough umph to take care of a crow with a body shot. An Airsoft gun won't kill them but will teach them pain when they land in your tree. After they learn that, they won't come back.
I think putting rubber owls in the tree would probably take care of that problem or maybe those sound emitting deals?
