ok i went and picked the what i thought was a hella buy. turns out to have drama come with but thats just how things go. so far here is the info i got off the boat and will post pics as soon as i figure out how.
1976... 17foot scorpion but also says marlinso not sure what thats all about.
berkely 2jc-a pump
stock 455 olds set up
its sat in a barn since 93 and the guy tore into it but only the seats and such all drivetrain is intact. the work i am not so much worried about for i have friends thats into glass work and paint then i have built enuff motors to handle this. the question is is this boat worth the rebuild OR am i moeny ahead to pull motor and pump and trash it and find a good haul that just needs a motor drop and go
i only have 100 bucks in the boat so i know i can get that outta the parts on it the work is not a problem just not want to sink money in a boat thats not got any resale.
pics to come soon

I would say $100 for a pump and an engine is a smokin deal if you got a hull and a trailer too, so much the better.

thanx bro and now i am racking my head to figure out how i am going to get 4 seats in a boat that short.thinking i might face the two back seats face to face and hope for the best any ideas or pics of 16-17 footers would help with ideas alot
and starting to think that it was not in as bad shape as i first thought the more i rip into it the less of a mess it looks but since i have it tore down i decided to go all the way and rip the floor out and redo it all just to save going back and redoing it later and ease of mounting seats ...for you olds guys i keep hearing go with a 425 crank has anyone used that set up and what kinda rr's are you spining vs the 455 crank i had lite piston and rods in my sj and it had no prob spinning 5200 all day and the 3rd seaond on it tore it down replaced mains and back in she went the guy that bought it has yet to rebuild it and its been 6 years since i sold it.
guess i got on a rant since its raining and i am stuck in the house bored
thanx to all that have helped and posted so far

I Got The Same Boat But Different Around The Dash. Mine Is A 16' 73 Model Marlin Scorpion -- Thats The Only Other Scorpion I Have Seen. Shhot Me An Email Or A Pm And I Can Send U Some Pics Of Mine. I Have Tried Posting Them Here But They Are In The Wrong Format.
Mine Was Orginally A 455 Olds With The 12jc-a Also. Pulled The Olds Out After 10yrs And Put A 440 Chrysler In It.
Glad To See Another One Out There

This is a splash of yours I think. This was a 70ish 18'9" sleekcraft atleast thats what it says on the title. I chose not to do anything with it, I heard they bow steer really bad comeing off of the gas. Good luck with your project.

Go to a local lumber supply house (not home depot) And get your self some clean cedar or some clean doug fir to use for the stringers. The knot holes make the wood weaker (in my opinion as im sure others will disagree). I personally perforate the sides of my stringers when I replace them, with lots of tiny holes 1/4 inch bit 1/4 deep. Then I soak them with west sytems epoxy mixed 50/50 with mek (slow drying acetone) to make then stronger.(after cutting them to fit of course.) NO matter how much water gets on that wood after that they will NEVER rot. I always drill the holes in the stringers for the engine and I drill them oversize enough to fit a small piece of stainless tubing. I epoxy the tubing to the stringers and clean the hole for the bolt through the stainless with the proper drill bit once it dries thouroghly.
I know this is all overkill when it comes to stringers but I don't want my own boats or my customers boats to EVER have a stringer problem again!
I hope this helps sir!
Now commence with picking my way of doing it apart everyone!! :crossx:
