What is the difference in a set of BBC Basett v-drive headers and jet headers? They look the same and I was told I can use jet headers on my v-drive. Is this correct?
Thx

Just don't put twisties on your V-drive. :rollside: Pipes may have a different angle since theengines mount differently.

Oh no! Say it isn't so!....j/k....angle could be a problem.May not clear your transom, or maybe tooclose fot comfort. If it gets you on the water, bolt em up and see if they work.

The jet headers will clear on v drive. The angle will be pointing up since v drive mounts are close to flat, and jets angle down towards the transom. They look better with an almost level style (vdrive headers) imo

If you think about it, the bellhousing on a jet is at the rear and the motor is pitched down a little to clear and their headers are designed that way. So with a V-Drive all you have to do is keep that in mind and it should tell you what direction they are going to be \ :)

3 Bassetts and mine are Sanderson. One set doesn't run water. Can you guess which one?

Look at mine, Sanderson, vs the Aquacraft in front of mine. Headers unknown on that one.

So are you guys saying that jet headers would look funny on my v-drive but they will work?

Ron, those are v-drive headers, note the angle of the the collector and the flange are just about the same. The motor in a jet is on severe angle compared to a v-drive and is the opposite to a v-drive, so if you use jet headers on a v-drive the collectors stick way up in the air, and they don't look funny they look like dog shit!..

I run jet headers on my jet and they dont have alot of angle on them. The pic bleow looks lame :yuk: Those aim up alot more than a normal jet header...

TD,
The main difference is just the angle, jet headers will work on a v-drive and depending on the brand, style and your engine angle will determine how far up they will be. I've attached a picture of my boat with Bassett twisty jetboat headers.

Also should be mentioned that jet headers are faster than the v-drive counter parts... :D

Basset jet headers tip up the least in my experience, but I like the angled Bassett jet boat header in the flat bottom, looks cool, racey, similar angle to the valve covers, scoop, wing he he hee.
Level is always good, pointed down is yucky, but what I really dig is this Cut off set of Bassett chrome large diameter twisties, on my vintage 68.

These are NOT jet boat headers.....They are cut down Rewarder v-drive jobbers......
They do have more angle than the V-drive bassets, BTW

Jet boat headers have a 13 degree angel on them, that all I run on my boats I hate the look of v- drives headers on a v-drive they hug the trans to much

When I bought by Bassett twisties, I asked about the difference. I was told that V-drive headers are 2 degrees down angle and jet headers are 6 degrees up angle on the collectors. The pipes themselves are the same for a standard stock item header. They will make them any way you want, same price. I like the twisties except they tucked in fairly low and it was kinda hard to mess around with anything inside the transom with out hitting your head!
