I am looking to put an Eagle rotating assy in my 454 . I see all types offered and different stroked kits too. What would I have to do to build a 496 or so with one of these kits? I think but am not sure that my motor is a 4.00 stroke? If I went with a 4.25 would I have to have any machine work done, etc??
Thanks
TD

A 496 is a 4.25 stroke and 4.311 bore(.060 over)!.. You will need machine work no matter what size you choose, nothing is ready to go!..

I have a 496 (4.25 stroke .060 454) with Carillo rods in it and had to clearance the block so the rods didnt hit.

So if I get the kit with the 4.25 stroke and have the block boiled and bored and have new cam bearings put in I should be good to go? Will the 990 heads I just got today and my TR with 2 660's be compatible with this combo? I suppose I'll have to get gears bigger than 18's now?
TIA
Ron
PS: What am I going to have to pay for the work I just mentioned and where do I get it done in AZ?

We can do it for you, we are in the Avondale,AZ area(just west of Phoenix). We specialize in boat motors and strokers. We do all of the machinework in house, and stock a lot of go fast parts. TIMINATOR

I dont want somebody to build it for me, just the work I mentioned. Thx

NA engine I would run the stock length 6.135".

If you have excel or some other spread sheet this calculator will tell you displacement after you plug in the variables.

Chris....
Moneypitt & I were discussing this 496 issue awhile back & he informed me that u cant run the stock piston (pin location) with the 6.135 rod...u have to either use the 6.385 rod with the stock piston or a stroker piston with the 6.135 rod?????

Stock pin height and 1/4 stroke is gonna make you 1/8 out of da hole.
Bore x Bore x stroke x .7854 x # cyl also works.

Ron,
You can't run a piston with stock CH. You have to run a piston with a compression height matched to the rod length and stroke. Crank counterweight profiles are now made so you can run a 6.135 rod.
On NA engines the trend is to go shorter on rod length to put a stronger pull on the intake charge since rod accerates quicker.

ok i have 6.385 rods and pistons to match. can i build a 496 with with i have?
what crank would i use?

Your compression height on the pistons should be around 1.290" if my math is correct. This would allow you to run a 4.250" stroke crank with a 6.385 rod in a 9.8" deck BBC.

stock bbc gen 4 454 block.

Short rod= less dwell at tdc and less tendency to detonate.

We would be happy to just machine your parts and balance them, or sell you the parts too. You could assemble it yourself. TIMINATOR
