I always kept additive in my diesel when I had it - keeps the pump and injectors clean. My neighbor was a Mercedes tech and said to always keep additive in the diesel...cheap protection!

Additives are a must... I only run Power Service through mine. I know alot of guys that do a mix of Power Service and Marvels. It not only helps keep your injectors and pumps clean but also lubricates them, protects them, and can increase fuel milage. If you are ever in a cold climate its nice to keep your fuel from gelling. I use the Power Service about every other or every third tank.

Are they really necessary in So Cal where it seldom gets down to freezing temps?

I run the Ford Powerstroke Cetane Boost. Its dirt cheap and last a while and is cheap protection for the injectors and even says it gives improved fuel economy......but damn it stinks when you pour it in. Anything that smells that bad must be good..........or...........um............uuuuuu... ....anyways!

The Power Service that I run smells awesome. Its kinda like people that have two-stroke bikes that run klots and love it, thats what the Power Service does for me.
And yes they are needed in warmer weather also, the TWO main reasons for the additive is LUBRICATION and CLEANING. The better fuel milage and the anti-geling are just bonuses.

I run Lucas injector cleaner & lubiricant in my duramax.
Tuesday I filled up, put it in tank before fill up. Kept MPH to 65-70MPH all the way down to So-cal, over the grapevine got 22.2 MPG going down, drove around for 2 days in local ventura county. Went north up 101 to Santa Maria on Thursday, did not stay to 65-70 this time. Filled up in Snata Maria last night. Hand calculated, 20.1 MPG. Best Milage ever in my 05 Duramax!
When I filled up, did not put injector cleaner & lubricant drove 55-65 over the 166 to bakersfield. Milage was 18.2 MPG, maybe it was the hills.
But I try to use the lucas every 3rd tank.
Good for pump & injectors, with this low sulfer diesel on on the market.

I know a bunch of guys that do competition pulls, they mostly run the Power Service. Some will run a mixture with marvels though. I have heard good stuff about the mixture but have not tried it myself yet.

As Most Of Us Know 1st Generation Duramax Ahd Lots Of Issues With Injectors, 2nd Generation Lly Not So Many, And 3rd Generation Lbz Has Not Been Out Long Enough To Know. I Have 2004 Lly And Drop A Bottle Of 248 Made By Bg Petrospecs In Every Other Tank Truck Now Has 52k And Never An Issue. Additives Are A Must Especially If You Live In So Cal. We Get The Shit Fuel Because We Go Through It So Fast. Additives Put The Sulpher Back In The Fuel That You Could Get Straight From The Pump Years Ago.
