I saw that too! My question, is there any spillage while doing this? If so, isnt it pretty corrosive stuff  Maybe they consider this a desolate desert area. NSF

I think gas will generally disolve into the air by the time it hits the ground so there really is not a major problem. When planes do dumps of fuel before making an emergency landing, the fuel won't even hit the ground....and that is a lot more fuel than a little spill.

I spent many years working on KC-135's, been on quite a few refuel missions and to answer your question there is very little leakage if any when they disconnect, as far as corrosive JP-4 is very simular to deisil fuel.
