Here are few pictures of the install of the new swim steps on my A/O 2600, As you can see the old steps are not very useful or practical, I made new the new steps out of 3/4" Polyethelene sheets and rubber non skid tape. Now my wife and grandson can access the water. http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010115-med.jpg http:// http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010123-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010124-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010125-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010111-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010112-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2457P1010114-med.jpg

Where did you get the materials? How much does it cost?
Did you bend it or cut it?
BTW looks great.. .

EL,
I purshased the polyelthlene and the non skid @ Mcmaster Carr online, TAP plastic has it also but it is more money. The material is 3/4" thick and it is very difficult to bent so I cut it and screwed it together. This stuff holds screws very well and is easy to cut and router. I had made ones for my last boat and after 5 years they still looked like new.
Thx Dave.

That is exactly what I have been looking for, you couldn't find anything like that premade?
I don't think my husband is up to making his own.
They look great!!

I like it.
I have just decided to do a full width swim step on my campbell v-drive cruiser. I was going to do teak, but, I like what you did here. I was thinking of getting the step covered with a Rhino lining type of coating as I have seen that done and I liked it(you can do those coatings in a nice selection of colors).
My issue is the bracketry. I am looking for integrated pillow blocks for my cavitation cross bar. I have seen a couple types, but don't know the source. It would be optimal for me to use the integrated design as I would not add more holes to my transom - or just a few more.
Also, my exhaust will be above the swim step, and I want to use turn downs that go through the step. My boat idles at 103 db, and turn downs through a swim step would definitely take care of the noise issue.

Minnesota,
They do make some steps out of this material but they have handles and brackets that would not work with my transom, also they were exspensive.
Holly Molly,
You may have to have someone build the brackets and blocks for u. The swim step is the easy part for your application. I'm not sure Rino linnig will stick to the polyethlene, I would get a small piece and try it. This step helped with the sound inside the boat also.

HM.
Leonard Folkerson designed brackets like that when he owned Finish Line Engineering. I heard from a little bird the other day that a shop called Lee Performance Products in Elsinore purchased all of his designs. You might be able to get them from him. http://www.leeperformanceproducts.com/
If not from him, maybe glenwood marine. He was buddies with Leonard; might have some of his own design, or otherwise.
You would think you could just get a set of those brackets from a place like REX MARINE, wouldn't you? :P :P

How did you make those bends on the edges? That looks REALLY nice..

Clancy72,
I had to cut the two angles and screw the two parts together. The 3/4" material does not bend easliy and I have not found any glue that will adhear to the material.
