View Full Version : Why So Many Cats For Sale??

BajaMike

Looking at the SPAM section and other places, it seems like there's four times as many cats for sale then there are v-hulls.
I'm wondering if the insurance prices/availability is causing lots of people to sell thier cats....
I think it's the main reason I'm not considering one....

I think a lot of the cats for sale, are by sale by those with more disposable income then most of us. If you watch what a lot of them do, will be to turn around and buy bigger cats, or put their money into something else they derive pleasure from.

we couldn't afford to own/operate that boat if someone gave it too us;)
Gas $1,000+ everytime it hits the water
Insurance is probably $5,000+ a year
Amazing boats.....I would love Framers 26 with the 800 in it.(Not too small for Havasu but not to big for Parker) :crossx: :)

I think most boaters on this site go to Havasu, Powel, Mead, Mohave. Once you have owned a lot of boats at some point you figure out they are much better for speed and handling. They are lower on the beaches and handle ruff water great.
Therefore more people on this site have cats and naturaly it would seem like more for sale. If you did a pole online I would guess 70% of the people have cats.
Also these people are very ego driven and allways are moving up.

I would say the ones for sale on the board are not because people are upgrading cause most that I know who are upgrading have already traded in or got rid of their their boat and it was not via the boards...
I think most that have their's up for sell have the means to own and operate a cat, but have realized that they could have just as much fun boating in a boat that costs way less to operate and own...and the amount of boating fun does not grow in proportion to what they spent on the boat, or maybe just want to do something different with their freetime.

Most people who own DCB's can afford them and the gas and the insurance.
these boats are not cheap and parts are not cheap either,
people are selling them for various reasons, upgrade to new boat, just tired of high preformance boating, upgrading their homes or buying bigger more expensive homes.....
its not like walking into bayliner(for example) and stressing over can I afford the $150 a month boat payment.

After this boating season mine is going up for sale so I can get a DCB F-32.
But the insurance does play a factor, my 26 Daytona is a little over $4000.00 a year to insure. That is the main reason I built the Raylar, so I could keep the origanal block with my serial #. That way if something happens, as far as the insurance company is concerned it still has the 496 in it.

Come on, the union hall/pool hall ISSAC's you day is almost over at that point :boxed:
And I thought i had it ruff
Times have changed Kilr. Not everyone sits at the hall all day and drinks and gets stoned. We've got to work. They've cracked down on a lot of stuff. And with this new port security deal, a lot of these guys may lose their job.

...I think they are all realizing how retarded it was to spend $150k on a 26' cat.... :D

I just about sh*t too. I bought the boat and then checked on insurance, if I would have known before, probably wouldn't have bought a cat. I think the reason I'm getting hit so hard is in part do to the fact that this is my first boat and had no boating experience.
Is this with a 496?

Yes it is. I don't know if where I boat has anything to do with it, but here in Seattle we boat mostly in the Puget Sound which of course is salt water. Also, to get that rate my deductible is 5K.

Well that does seem like it would urge some to sell their cat. I have been looking at 26 daytonas, and have been hearing something like $100/month with a 496 for insurance. I might need to check into this more though before becoming too set on these boats. I'd be in a similar situation to you with no boating experience (in my own boat) and am young (25). $4000 is too rich for my blood.

Are you shopping anywhere else? Have you got quoted for when your new engine goes in ?

I should have paid the 4 or 5 g's and added that 2nd motor.

I have checked all over and can't do any better.
I used my stock block with the Merc serial # still attached so it still looks like a 496 if I have a problem.

I dont know what the problem is...I called out here in TN and said i had a 28' deckboat and it was no problem. Under $800 a year giving them the original contract and everything..... she did ask if it went over 40mph and I said yes, barely. That IS a yes, right??

I can't understand it myself. Why would people want to sell their beautiful cats? Maybe they're going to the dogs :D

150 a month is a stretch. I had some guy come in the other day wanted to buy a yellow bluewater and he was like do you think I could buy an Eliminator sticker and peel the bluewater off. I was thinking to myself yea if you buy the 90k boat you can have the sticker but no way in hell am I gonna sell of give you a sticker pound sand :crossx:  I really dont think the guy knew who he was talking to
