I did try a 26 lab from mercury and I ran ½ mile faster with about the same hole shot and 200 RPM less. For 900.00 it was not worth the money I went back to my 24 stock prop. That way I don’t have to worry about it if it gets a little nicked up in Havasu.

Cat mando, What motor and prop?? 496 HO package? The Ultras seem a lot faster just like the Cobras ?? I forgot, mine is 496 HO, Bravo 1, 4 blade, 24 P and done last Feb.
And I assume (Is this true) that the story of going down stream will add the speed of the water current to your mph with GPS but not radar. So in theory if you are on the river, say Parker which I've been told runs about 6 MPH below the dam then your speed would be higher than say on Havasu  Any guru's out there on this  NSF

That pic was just outside on Long Beach in the salt. The GPS #'s I took were at the river. So it might run a little faster in the salt. Sea-level, cooler temps, and bouyant water should help I would think.

Thanx BEER30 for posting the pix, I'll learn how someday!
Thanx Deano for the kind word. Just bought the boat this year from the original (47 years) owner. Purchase included 35mm slides of the building of the boat. Still on homebuilt WOOD trailer. Kinda learnin' still, last weekend my launch driver backed into the water too far and yes the trailer FLOATS!

Some very nice looking boats here..
I like the "reasoning" behind the speed numbers from some.......
My boat ran 84 with 54 gallons of gas per side (@ 6 pounds per gallon that is 648 pounds) That's 7/8 tanks. It was me and one other person, there were some leaves in the boat from the tree I stopped under on the way to the lake. The mule cart I was pulling had the mule in it and the hay was a little wet from roost of the 32 cleaver props I was turning at 6,319 rpms. The mule cart was a deep v not a cat. I had a head wind of 7 kts so that is about 10 mph slowing me down.......
My boat runs a little over a 100 all the time, no matter what the heat index is and load.
Yes salt water adds a couple of mph because of the cooler air and lift of the salt.

Ours is not really a ***boat.
However, full fuel(30 gallons), full ballast (600 pounds), 9 people and all thier gear. Two 60 quart coolers full, wake boards, skis, anchor and vests. I get a solid 48mph out of her.
Everything out of the boat and just me with a quarter tank of fuel, solid 48 mph.

Every time I see Carl's boat I get, um, wood. That thing is absolutely beautiful, especially considering its totally original.
Keep in mind this was the 1,000HP Canopied Daytona of its day. Think about what else was running around the river in 1958. Little outboard powered Glastrons.

Yeah, im an HO. 4blade, bravo1, 24p. Im going to get the exhaust from EMI soon. I run barely any fast going with the current. Maybe 1 mph.

robertm

95.8 mph with 1 person and about a 1/4 tank of gas. Still needs some tuning, was the 2nd trip out on the motor.

Thats funny about the current but whatever you say, Ive only done the test run on Havasu. Are the headers from Eddie any less that the CMI's because they are pricey, no, just flatout expensive and I've heard very problematic on the install?? And most of the 496 people say the stock headers are pretty efficient. Good luck, boat looks HOT :D NSF

Some people work hard for what they have. Just cause a person didn't build it with their own hands doesn't mean they can't be proud of it. Plus this thread isn't titled "Your Hot Boat, that you built with your hands, pics". Its a boating site. People like to show off what they got. So lets see some pics of your Challenger.

This is an awesome boat, and that episode of Rock the Boat and this boat is what made this Missouri guy aware of all of the custom boats out on the west coast. I could have been looking to buy a baja, formula, etc. if I hadn't seen that show and more specifically this boat. I would have probably saved alot of money when I go to buy a boat if I hadn't seen it.

Most guys here are out making the money to pay for the >100k boat and have better things to do with their time then be fukin around in the garage every night.
There are only a handful that have rigged their own boats. Why does that matter. I would rather spend my time in the boat, with the family and let someone else build it. servicing and minor repairs done by myself is too much.
I would have Boyd build me a car too. Different strokes for different folks, hater.

LMAO.... I'm just gonna say a few things and I don't care if you like this or not...
1. If your'e happy with yer 28 year old boat, or the fact that tooling around on it keeps you busy, then that's cool.. I actually think that's really cool, but don't insult other people/families by blanketing a group of mostly decent hardworking people with yer redneck logic.
2. I would never assume my boat is any more important to me than your's is to you, but don't assume the opposite just because I didn't build it from scratch.
3. Neither you or I could build in our garage, what I own today... I paid a professional at the top of their game to make me something I could only dream of, and yes I was quite involved in many aspects of the design.
4. There are many things that go into to measuring the quality of a person, honor, integrity, spirit, intelligence, knowledge, friendliness even sexual prowess.... Having a bitchen boat doesn't even make my top 50, I'm guessing most people on this board feel the same.
