My Olds 455 dipstick housing had been brazed when I got the boat and it was leaking. I found a replacement here (http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=622) I changed out the old oil with some new Valvoline 40 racing oil, and oiling pressure has been steady. (The stock oilpan, however, doesn't seem to hold near as much as I would like.)

I Had an oldtimer that used to race boats tell me to stick 6qt's in my 455 since they're known for spinnin' bearings

My first jet boat had a 455 Olds in it and I was told the same thing by a guy that raced BBO's. He also said not to hold it wide open for more than about 30 seconds. I had that boat from 1977 to 1986 with a stock pan and never had to touch the engine for anything more than tune-ups and oil changes.
