hi,
460 motor,
don't know what size the oil pan is.
when I first drained it after I bought it, it seemed like a lot of oil came out of it, when I refill it, the dipstick says full after 5 quarts.
A couple guys that are mechanics but not into boating at all says it looks like a big oil pan.
any way to figure it out without taking it off?
what are the dangers of filling it 5 quart pan with 10 quarts?
what are the dangers of running a 10 quart pan with only 5 quarts?
Josh

i think if u can post a pic of the side of the pan, the Ford guy's can tell u what it is!...running it either way is gonna get u in BIG trouble...better to be safe than sry...post a pic...prob could be that the dip stick is the wrong one!

you probably have stock oil pan (non-marine).. I have a stock 460 rear sump oil pan, it looks huge, but it only holds about 5 quarts.
