Hey Guys,
I have a 26 cat with a base 496 mag. I have a 22p bravo I prop and I am doing 62 at 4800 RPM. The motor is listed at a 4800 rev limit, but I have been hearing and talking to other base 496 mag users that are running at 5000-5100 RPM's. Is there anyone in the So Cal area close to San Bernardino that can bump up my rev limiter, because at 4800 I can tell that my motor still has more legs.

Are you hitting the rev limiter? If not, bumping it up won't help. My rev limiter was bumped up to 5400 by my boat manufacturer. I imagine you can too.

4800 rpm is all she will do.

4800 rpm is all she will do, but no it is not hitting the rev limiter. That is why I think I can bump it up a bit.

No one works on the Motorola computer used by Mercruiser yet, although I think it shouldn't be much longer. However, changeing your rev limit wouldn't help anyway (I think your all ready limited to 5150). Which boat do you have? I think for your combo your pretty close to optimum. I'd take your prop to a prop shop (I like York Propeller in Placentia 714-773-5444) and tell them you'd like a couple hundred more RPM's from it. Remember, your motor has a cast crank so I wouldn't try to spin it to 8000 RPM's. wink Good luck!

I am going to give a few prop places a call on Monday, so thanks Harry.
