about 850 10 lbs no intercooler on methanol,a little less on gas
10:1 compression
you could really gain with an intercooler

Your same setup, but with twin-turbos would be your bullseye. You're throwing 150-200HP into spinning those rotors.

Turbos, now there's an idea for ya Gary :) .J/K. Did you ever consider going back to a turbo set up?

I ran 150 horse nitrous on saturdy and sunday i ran 300 hp nitrous to run the yellow eliminator which i beat him by one day light boat length. He has 1250 horsepower on dyno. I still cant understand how my boat can outrun that 22 ft eliminator with only 1000 hp and with a v-hull. . It really is an amazing boat. It is a blast to race cause it just isnt ever supposed to win against the boats i run against. That is why it is so much fun. I like being the underdog. I also cant believe my outdrive lasted 2 whole days of dragracing out of the hole on the bottle. Which boat were you in?

I know, its hard to believe, but it will do it with 1000 hp and runs like its on a string. No trim tabs or nothing. Do you believe that. I know boat racers lie but i dont have to lie about it. Although i have considered running turbos again, Mike K. , they are just too damn expensive for me. I would only consider it with fuel injection and water jacketed turbo housings like the gentry's. The whole setup is around $15,000 not counting the motor . I did dyno my 496 last july with a 10-71 alcohol blower and injector and at 10% overdrive and 14 lbs of boost , the motor made 1255 horsepower and i didnt think my boat could handle it so i went back to carburetor.

If you are talking total performance or total looks Nothing looks Better than a BAD-ASS BLOWER motor on any boat :)

I was in the little Cole Tr4 that is in my avaitor. Multi Color one.
Its not fast yet, but I like to get out there and play .
Looking for more power myself . I would liked to have gotten your old 496.
I want around 700 hp AV. gas motor,
I have total respect for your boat , it is very fast , I could not believe it the first time I saw you really get on it .I know it was running over a 100 ,when i saw it. Its cool that your boat can out perform a lot of the better profile boats.
Can't wait to see what you have this year at Plowmans.

Go to www.turbomustangs.com under the blow-thru carb.section.A guy just dynoed a twinturbo 540 with afr heads blowing-thru a single 950 carb made 970 hp at 9psi on the first day of dynoing. He claims 1000 hp at 9psi should not be a problem with some more tuning. It also sounds like he is using water injection instead of a intercooler. His goal is 1200hp at 16psi.

to answer your question about how much your engine can handle horsepower is something your engine will tell you...usually right after its running its best! or right before it blows!.... :p

The MOST important issue in the motor/HP deal is the competance of the machineshop that builds it. With a deal like yours, there will be 200-300 HP difference between what it could be and what it should be depending on shops. There was 14 mph between my Daytonas beginning "as dynoed" speed with the new motor by a local national-name shop (1095), and our dissembling and "redoing it our way" speed. I bought the boat with the new motor in it and figured that I would use it until the off season, but with the many gremlins involved, it didn't get me 2 months till we had to tear into it. The blower carbs that it was dynoed with were not the carbs that were sold to the owner and installed on it. They tuned their own dyno carbs for a "good number", and then put out of the box carbs on it!!!! Again 14 mph. Your results may vary. Space does not permit me to list all of the errors. If anyone cares, I will post them later. TIMINATOR

My blown injected 540 is on av gas & makes 10 psi of boost with an intercooler. It will pull my stainless A impeller (which has been massaged to load a little harder than the norm) to 6400 in the middle of the summer heat & 6700 in good winter air... it pushes a heavy boat to 109 at 6100 with 6 psi of boost & as of yet have not had time to test beyond that...
