Nice, a tall 3 point threat other than Kobe!

He REALLY blew up for the clippers last season. I watched a few games where he was a 3 point machine. He should be good posted on the outside waiting for the shot. Now he needs to get in there and learn that triangle. With this line up I am very confident the Lakers can make it into the second round.
BTW: I heard the clippers offered him the same amount. It is funny, cause the clippers made it to the second round last year, but Vlad knew what franchise was the best. :)

I just heard that the clipps signed Tim Thomas, that is pretty huge. I guess Cassell is going elsewhere now too.

I just read that Cassell is close to re-signing with the clippers.

The Lakers are now looking at Bobby Jackson for 1.7m per year for 2 years. If they land him, it can be a pretty good upgrade with just Vlad and Bobby.

I heard that the Lakers offered Cassell a 2 year 10mil deal and the Clips only wanted to give him a 1 year 7 mil. deal. I also heard that Cassell said he would rather play for the Lakers.
Who knows.....could be a good year in the works for the Lake show.

I only read about Vlad probably signing with the Lakers. That is a very good signing for them and bad for the Clips. Other than that I have not been following all of this NBA stuff lately.
You never know until all of this stuff shakes out and contracts are officially signed though.
Anyhow....

Lakers, Clippers Make Moves
Radmanovic signs with Lakers; Cassell on the way out as Clippers sign Suns' Thomas
By Mike Bresnahan and Jason Reid, Times Staff Writer
4:13 PM PDT, July 1, 2006
The Los Angeles Lakers moved quickly Saturday on the first day of free agency, addressing their need for outside shooting by snatching away a piece from their cross-town rival by agreeing to terms with three-point specialist Vladimir Radmanovic.
The Los Angeles Clippers also reacted quickly after Radmanovic and point guard Sam Cassell apparently reneged on agreements to stay with them, reaching terms with sharp-shooting forward Tim Thomas early Saturday.
Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy and the representatives of Thomas, a 6-foot-10 forward who revived his career with Phoenix late last season, completed a four-year, $24-million deal Saturday at about 12:30 a.m. The move capped a dizzying three-hour period in which the Clippers were informed Cassell and Radmanovic accepted and then rejected multi-year offers, sources said.
Radmanovic agreed Saturday to a five-year, $31-million contract with the Lakers, the same package the Clippers offered.
"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.
Radmanovic, who stretches defenses by luring post players away from the basket with his outside shot, has career averages of 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 38.1% shooting from three-point range.
Thomas, a nine-year veteran, who makes his off-season home in Los Angeles, played a key role in the Suns' run to the Western Conference finals. Thomas averaged 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and made 37.8% of his three-pointers as Phoenix defeated the Clippers in the semifinals.
Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 12.
"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Unrestricted free agent Vladimir Radmanovic of Bonsia-Herzegovina plans to sign a long-term contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, his agent said Saturday.
The 6-foot-10 (2.08-meter) forward played 4 1/2 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers last February for Chris Wilcox.
The Clippers had said they hoped to re-sign Radmanovic, but it didn't take long for the 25-year-old sharpshooter to make another choice.
"The decision was obviously a tough one for Vlade," agent David Bauman said from Bethesda, Md. "On the one hand, he had strong interest from the Clippers to entice him to remain. (Coach) Mike Dunleavy, (general manager) Elgin Baylor and (executive) Andy Roeser did everything conceivable to make Vladimir feel comfortable and convince him to return.
"At the same time, the Lakers and numerous other teams called just after 12 midnight Eastern time to express to Vladimir their strong interest in getting his services."
Among the callers, according to Bauman, were Lakers star Kobe Bryant and coach Phil Jackson.
"When Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson call your number at 6 o'clock on the morning of free agency, and you've got Vlade Divac, who's one of his idols, and Magic Johnson on standby, you tend to perk up and listen real hard and clear."
Bauman said it was around 9:00 Friday night in California and 6 a.m. Saturday in Belgrade, Serbia, where Radmanovic lives, when the phone rang.
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak confirmed the plan, saying: "At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic."
Kupchak wouldn't comment further.
Teams were allowed to begin speaking with free agents at 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on Saturday, but can't sign them until July 12.
"He's ecstatic," Bauman said of Radmanovic. "He's looking forward to playing with Kobe and helping the Lakers move closer to a championship. He hates to lose, as does Kobe.
"At the end of the day, Vladimir decided that the playing situation and the team makeup of the Lakers was the best fit for him. Vlade knows he's going to vastly improve the Lakers' outside shooting. He's looking forward to working with the Lakers and getting them to the promised land next year."
Bauman said it's unclear what the exact contract terms will be for his client, but the deal will be about $31 million (?24.4 million) over five years.
"It's the full midlevel exception," Bauman said. "He can't sign until July 12. The NBA will tell us at that time what the salary cap is."
Radmanovic averaged 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 77 games last season, playing 25.6 minutes per game. Among other things, he shot 138-of-354 from 3-point range.

I was just reading on some rumor site (nothing solid). That Cassell is a little unhappy with the negotions with the clipps and has opened up to other options. The Lakers are still looking for that PG, that is really all they need to be competitive.

I would like to see them stay away from Cassell. He has been prone to injuries and only has 2 years left.
I would rather see them snag up Banks.

I would rather have Cassell, he could teach Sasha and Smush a lot and Cassell would be great to have in crunch time. Sasha is coming around nicely and the triangle does not really need a true point guard, plus Lamar handles the ball anyway. Just my .02.

I still love the slap in the face the Lakers gave the clippers. As if they havent been slapping them around for the last 25+ years, they go and do this. :D

That sounds like a good plan. Last year I scored 4 tickets, 8 rows back for $160 each...I am still recouping from that. :D

BTW: I just heard Ben Wallace is going to the Bulls. That is a huge blow to the Pistons, I think their run is just about over. This is also very big for the Bulls, I expect them to be much more competitive.

Except Tim Thomas only plays for contracts. :( He played his ass off this season, cause he knew he would be on the market again. It sucks that there are players like this. Now that he got his money, he will relax a bit.
I think Radmanovic has much more potential and will probably shine with the triangle. He is going to draw people out cause they know he will make that 3 ball. That will leave Kobe open to slash and do his thing alot more.
The clippers games I watched I was very impressed with Radmanovic. I saw one game where he actually won the entire thing for them. He could not miss from 3 point land, they were even double teaming him. If he can do this for the Lakers, they will be very tough for alot of teams. Especially with Odom, Kobe and Brown working the inside.

Football season is too short for me, it really sucks. I just hope the Raiders actually do something this year, that makes it even harder. :)
