I am in the middle of restoring my 1978 20' Eliminator. It has a velvet drive transmission and a C-500. The boat ran great. It is the first boat that I bought. I would like to know how much horespower can that transmission take? I have a 468bbc With ported and polished 049 oval port heads, 9.5:1 pistions and a hydraulic roller cam. The headers are lighting water jacketed and above the water line. I think the motor makes 475 +. Can I have it gone through and live with a lot of water skiing?

I have one that is a 1978. I am running, pretty much, the same as you. Only thing I had to replace was a planetary gear. I don't think it really needed it.

Is it a model 71 or 72. My buddy has a 72c behind a blown 540 and has never had any trouble with it.

SWEET! I do not know what model it is. I will look and find out. I know the boat will never ba a racer but it pulls a skier fully loaded with fuel with out a struggle. I just want it to be reliable and realy clean.
