Hello from a long time lurker/reader of informative threads...
I have a question about props and reverse on an older Sanger day cruiser...
The main question though, Is it "normal" for the boat to back-up to the right when it is in reverse??
Does anyone know what props came stock on these? BBC powered...
Thanks,
Bill

Yes it is normal, and it's due to prop rotation don't worry about it, just have to deal with it!... Prop size depends on the power and gears so there's no specific size, boats were available with different power combos!..

Ok...makes sense and sort of what I figured...
not too sure on the gearing but it does have a big thirsty 454...just curious about props in regards to number of blades and what would run best on the boat.
Thanks for your quick response too!

If it's just a family cruiser you want a 3 blade for sure, good torque and no vibration, if it's a hot rod and you're looking for top speed a 2 blade will be more in order, but the right 3 blade can work too!..

What would a good 3 blade prop be? 14/18? 13/14?
Thanks again...

On my Howard cruiser, I find that a 11 1/2" or 11 3/4" dia with 15 or 16 inch pitch three blade works well. If its not going faster than about 75 mph then a 12" dia may be ok. The bigger diameters can cause handling problems at high speeds. Do you know about what HP you have or what gears are in the V-drive?

Bill,
I have a 75' Sanger Mini Day Cruiser. blown 502. I now run a 11 1/2x15 3 blade with 29% gears. Before I put the blower moter in, It had a Stelliings 3 blade that was a little smaller. Horsepower and gearing will dictate your prop selection. I did find that too large a prop, even with allot of hp will cause the stern to rise and make for poor steering. Contact Tom Bentley @ 1-530-885-0531. (Menkins V-Drive) He will be very helpful with your prop selection and can provide you with a good prop. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice one and all...not too sure what the horsepower or the gearing in the V-drive... is there an easy way to check the gearing?

A real quick way is to mark the top and bottom shafts and rotate the top shaft 1 revolution and look where the bottom shaft mark is, that will give you an idea what you have!..
