Ok I figured this would be the place to go. Anyways I bought my brother a 76 hondo t-deck. Bitchin Little boat I must say. Anyways it came with a 455 olds that sounds healthy. But we are having a couple of issues. I am trying to find out what holley carb this thing has. I see a bunch of numbers and don't know where to look or what I am looking for. Also It has a hard time staying running. Checked the full lines all is fine check the fuel filter all is fine. I am asuming its the carb. Because when you keep your foot in the gas it doesnt stall. We have adjusted the idle and still stalls. what do you guys think?
Thanks Anthony

On the front of the carb choke horn you will see the word "list" followed by a 4 or 5 digit number. That number is the one you need. Go to Mortec.com (www.mortec.com) and you can look it up there.
When you say it "stalls", are you saying it only does it at idle or does it do it at any RPM?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Checked float levels? Does adjusting the idle mixture screws make ANY difference in the way it idles/runs?

ok ill have him look. The screws on both sides right? Which one is which? He said he messed with it a little and it ran better. So I was thinking it could be just a mixture problem. Maybe to lean? Also there is this lever about the choke horn that can spin around, but isnt hooked to anything. Also the choke doesnt appear to be engaging. Not sure how it works there. One last thing he just told me that it would shot a flame out of the carb every now and then. like a backfire

he says mostly at idle, but it has happened I guess while running.

76 Hondo's are pretty cool flats. I used to have one, great boat. Is it a flat, sprint or runner? Post a pic of your deal.
I have a link on my comp. @ work. lots of good tuning info for Holley carbs.
I would recomend doing some reading on the carb & try to get the basic stuff.
I always tried to skip the basic stuff. Never really worked out to well.
Thats why I gave up on carbs. Enjoying injection much better.

here's the same thing I posted in your just jets section
Sounds like a vacume leak or a blown power valve.
To find out what carb you have you can find the Holley model numbers on the choke horn. and reference it here------> ID chart (http://www.holley.com/data/TechService/Technical/Carb%20Numerical%20Listing.pdf)
some good info here too
Holley's tech page (http://www.holley.com/TechService/Library.asp)
