Here are some pic's of Dennis's 290 Effect Cat. They are just finshing a few things on stereo and interior. The stereo is going to be SICK! He plans on being in Havasu 10/24-10/1/26.

Pretty sweet setup....Next to the generator is that a Battery Charger, or a constant Power Source?..such as 14.4 Power source being powered by the generator...
I would hate to have to change those plugs on the outside of the engine... :) :D
Boat looks good.

Boatfloatin,
You need one of those generators. That is a pretty sweet set up.

Carreraboat, that is an Eclipse not an Elite. Either way, it is tiny compared to the cat.

Boat looks good. The thing next to generator is a convertor, it's takes a.c to d.c. and runs constant power to stereo and amps. He will need it with that stereo he is running.
The plugs look like they will be hard to get to but believe it or not there is alot of room in front of motors and sides, you should be able to get to plugs on the sides. But the mechanic will have to be smaller than me.

Running it to a Xantrex Smart Charger that charges at 40amps to two Odyssey's...it is smart enough to raise amps or drop them depending on battery level, heat, ect....Basically, when the battery's are down and I kick on the generator, it sends a charge to batt's which are running the system, and the battery's are producing a 14.4 load when being charged...it is pretty clean, and their is a charging and voltage gauge next to the driver that monitors the smart charger...
With the converter, I am not sure if it is charging the battery's or just supplying juice to the system...if it is not charging the batt's then you can only pump the stereo when the charger is on...I rarely have to use the generator, only when the battery's get low...

Thats a nice rig .... I'm curious once it is dialed what they see in speed...great effort by Carerra!

I'm not sure if the convertor charges or not, I would hope so, I'll have to ask Dennis. The unit is around $500 I think.
What is the cost of the Xantrex unit? and the size? That sounds like a good way to go.

He ran it once and hit 86mph but the X was about 2 inches too high. We will see on the 25th. Not bad for a total of 700HP. Once it's all cleaned up it should be cherry. It's also going to be at the SEMA show.

What is the cost of the Xantrex unit? and the size? That sounds like a good way to go. The Xantrex is about 400 and the optional remote guage is about 40...it monitor charging of each battery and the amps the charger is putting out.
If the Converted is wired going through the battery, then it would work such like a charger, but some folks I talk to before I did mine said to keep it seperate from the boat batteries...let the generator charge the source, and the source go through the battery's and that keeps the system fresh and the batteries tendered while the generator is running...
The boat battery's would get their charge from the alternator and be completely seperate from the system batterys...
The setup they did is a good one...I was leary of adding additional battery's so I could keep the weight down for the outboards..with the generator and two batt's its a little less than 3 batt's...just a different way to skin a cat.
If weight were no issue, I would have two battery's for starting (twin engines) and two 6 volts being charged by a system and have the the life of the 6 volts and charging to boot....but with the OB's I would probably only be able to do 80 then... :D

Good info.
I'm pretty sure he's running it thru batteries and charges the system.
I'll have to post some more pictures later, maybe not to Monday or later. I'll be busy at the Miramar Air Show, we have a customer Chalet there.

love the idea of twin whipples small blocks....
on the subject of the stereo system....i know you guys get real protective of installation tricks etc. but if someone could post a drawing/schematic or just a good description of the generator/inverter/charger setup along with the manufacturers of the components, i would appreciate it...
thanks

Dustin Dustin, I know he was thinking of doing it with 6.2's so I'm sure he will do with these once warranty is over. Give him a call and talk to him. Maybe you guys can work some things out. I do know he went with the XR drives.

gm I don't think people are that protective of stereo installs, it's not that many tricks that make your stereo better than the other guys. It's all about componets and power. Mbown2 could give you the details on his setup that sounds like a great way to go. I haven't done a generator setup yet so the exact set up is pretty easy. The generator powers the invertor and then wires into batteries. When I do mine I'll use a Honda 2000i generator and Xantrex true power and Trojan 6v batteries.

I drove it a couple times but we never ran it hard full of gas, ice chest etc. I think he wanted to put some hours on the motors first. I tell you that then runs great. Saturday was Hurricane winds so I didn't see him that day but Friday and Sunday were great. I think he needs to do more testing and should be pretty close to the century mark. The stereo was Sick!

I think it's a great boat. So yes I'm sold on it. If my buddy gets time he took a bunch of pic's running and on the water so maybe he will post them here soon. She rides really well, I would like to have more time behind seat to get used to feel but it's very solid ride.
The stereo sounds really well and will rattle your teeth. I think Bill has some comp. now.
