I love Hot Rod Fords! I owned a few bad big block Fords in cars. But to install one in a boat has got to be an expensive setup. No parts.... and if you can get them they cost so much more.

Hustler,
The top pully is a 45. The blower is a 1471 and spins 15% overdrive. This makes between 12 and 14 pounds of boost at wot depending on conditions. The top pully is small, but so is the bottom pully. The reason for this is so that my blower belt will fit. A blown ford is taller than a blown bbc because of the height of the intake manifold. You can see in the pictures the tunnel ram style intake manifold. It is the height of the blown ford with the innercooler that limits blower belt selection, thus I had the pully selection fit the belt size.
I love talking about this stuff and giving Ford some high performance exposure. If you or anyone else has any questions, please ask.
I also want to thank Riverliver for talking the engine pictures. They came out great.

Very clean rigging, you can tell Gary at GT Performance did it.He also did my boat and it came out great. My boat was leaving when yours was arriving, awesome boat.Gary is building me an injected quad rotor right now and hope to have it done in about a month.I would recomend GT Performance to any one who really wants quality work.Once again awesome boat svo 540.

SVO 540, Nice clean looking ride. Tell me about your injection setup. How is the drivability? I don't see the injector lines that go in under the hat. Is that unit electronic? Is that a bug catcher hat? it looks smaller than ones I have seen before.

Sofa King Smooth,
You said your boat left GT when mine got there. What boat was yours? Also, what are you going to put that quad rotor in?

Cole,
I highly recommend GT Performance. It will take longer but worth the wait.
My engine block is a Ford Motorsports "SVO" block. SVO stands for special vehicle operations. This is the ford racing block with four bolt main caps and other improvements over stock. It is the block Bob Glidden used in his pro stock car.
If you didn't know before, now you know where my screen name comes from. I have a SVO engine block with 540 cubic inches. "SVO 540"

Unchained,
The injector hat is an enderle bug catcher. It may look small because it is sitting on top of a big 1471 blower. Also, you may have noticed in the pictures that the three round air inlet butterflies have a spacer incerted. This is to smooth the transition off of idle into the mid range. It restricts the airflow a bit from 0 to 1/8 throttle. The system is electronic. All of the fuel spray bars are inside the hat. You can see the feed and return fuel line coming off the back of the hat. The drivability is awesome. I have a steady 950 rpm idle. When I dunp it in gear it doesn't stall because the electronics pick up the increase in load and adjust for it. It is also able to tame down the idle of an aggressive cam shaft. The efi takes away timing when the motor starts to surge at idle. The timing control is very cool. It takes away timing through peek torque around 4,000 rpm and then brings it back in after that.

Charlie,
I tried to send you an email last week. Did you get it? My wife and I read your DCB story and found it to be a great read. I think my wife even saved the article. It sounds like you and your family have alot in common with me and my family inculding our 100mph DCB's. The SVO 540 family would sure like to hook up with you and your family sometime at the river.

Dumb question.. Do those injector butterflys meet Coast Guard specs? I would think you need a flame restrictor. An inspection by the CG could be a bad thing. Still is way cool though.

RiverDave

I don't think the blower would let any flames through from a backfire.. Maybe that's considered the flame arrestor?

Brad,
Not a dumb question. I have a flame arrestor/air cleaner that goes over the front of the injector. Check out the pics posted by Havasu Hangin last year and you can see it. The last post of that string is December 5th.
RD is correct about a backfire not going through the blower but I don't think the coast guard will buy that one.
Boatcop, if your out there, what is the law with blower motors and flame arrestors?

SVO 540 my boat was the white conquest with a grey and blue stripe. It had a blown 509 with a imco stand off box and drive.Smoked the drive after 5 days so went with a xr.Wanted a little more so ordered a quad rotor, boat should be rather fast with the new motor. What drive are you running, and how is it holding up?Gary is definatley the man when it comes to setting up boats.Like everyone says you get what you pay for!

Sofa King Smooth,
I do remember your boat. In fact, I heard that thing running. Sounds bitchen.
I run an XR upper and Imco 2inch shorter lower. Final gear ratio is 1.25. I got about 20 hours on it so far and not one problem.
That Conquest is going to be fast. I remember reading in Hot Boat about a Conquest deck boat with a quad rotor wipple motor in it. I think the name of the boat was Top Cat and was owned by a guy who owned a car dealership. I may be wrong, it was a while since I read this article. Anyway, I do remember that the boat ran over 100mph. You may want to try and locate the Hot Boat Magazine with this boat in it.
That boat is going to be a sleeper. I feel sorry for the guy in the HP500 powered cat that wants to race you. You will kick his ass.

Spoke with conquest yesterday and there is a guy running a carbed quad rotor and I was told it was radared at 114.The best I've seen in mine was 93 with a dinged up prop.I also have a two inch shorter lower and i don't recall what gears Gary said we will be going to.I do know we will be making at least 1000hp.Should be fun and your right about sleeper, its fun to have that much hp with no hole in the hatch.Hope to see you at the lake and have a cold one and take a closer look at that wicked ride of yours.

I just found the hot boat mag and the guy is running a 588 blosdale motor with the old style bottom. It did radar at 102 with two passengers and I believe a reasonable amount of fuel.Very excited to see what mine will do.

SVO 540 Are those lightining headers? I have a blowen 565 that dynoed at 1093hp. I have a pair of imco headers right now and wanted to go to lightning but when I talked to a lightning rep. he told me he doesnt reccomend it for that horsepower, all my friends have lightnings on their rides and there around the same hp as me, and I know thats what all the Htm boys run on thier big motors. Any info on this?

Sofa king smooth,
The conquest you are talking about is running a Blosdale 581 (1000 hp) and has run 104 in the past. I have talked to the owner at Blosdale's shop where the motor is being freshened up right now. The boat has got to be one of the badest (sp) deck boats at Havasu.

Those are ligntning headers on my motor. They were modified by Imco. Imco extended the pipe and water jacket all the way out the transom. This eliminates any posibility of reversion. You can see in the pics where the stainless steel pipe was welded to the end of the stock lightning header.
Imco makes a great exhaust, it just would not fit on my Ford motor. I have no data comparing lightning to Imco.

Blosdale built my last motor a blown 509, ran great never one problem. However, with out a dyno hp numbers are just a guess. When I switched boats I dynoed my motor and it was about 55hp less than I thought.I'm in no way bad mouthing Jeff he is a great guy who builds a very nice motor, at a very attractive price.I just saying with out a dyno its just a guess.

MrHavasuCat
02-15-2002, 10:45 AM
Jeff has dynoed all his standard packages (510,540,581) so he knows ballpark what they are producing as far as hp and torque are concerned because he builds them with all the same components.
If you want your motor dynoed I think all you would have to do is pay the $$ and he would not have a problem with it. Jeff told me he has developed his basic packages above from testing, and he knows what works and what does not.
From the speeds I have seen in my boat compared to the speeds others have seen with the same hull with dyno verified motors I can say he is pretty damn close.
