Since insane amounts of high end audio are being put into boats now, I'm just interested in what people are running in there boats. If you happen to know what you are running, please post including pics if you have them.
I have a DCB Mach 26 that Dave hooked my stereo up when I bought it. It includes:2 Sony Mobile ES 12's powered by a Fosgate 500.2 amp. I have a 400.4 Fosgate amp running to 2 sets of(8 total) Sony component systems with a (4)1 inch tweeter and a (4)6 1/2 midrange. WHAT DO U GOT???

4 10" Boston Acoustic Woofers. 3 sets of MB Quartz 4-6" coaxials. Powered by 3 Fosgate Power 800 Amps 2-4 channel. Head unit is a Pioneer Premium CD. Planning on getting 2 more sets of MB Quartz for under the rear hatch so I can pump more tunes towards the bow when I'm chillin. Too much damn bass without them.
Peace out,

Oh and I forget the most important part of the system. A transom mounted remote. So you can crank the sound while dipping off the back w/o getting back in the boat.

Sony ABP ES disc head unit. 10 disc changer 6 disc Mini Disc changer. 5 Crossfire amps totaling 2500 watts. 1 Phoenix Gold distribution center with 15 farads built in. 4 JL 10" woofers 10 Eclipse 5" with tweeters. A sh@t load of Optima batteries (4) off stock amp with a isolater, which helps charge the lowest battery first and takes the pressure off Alt. The coolest trick is you crank up the sound and it will bounce your drink out of the cup holders. All this in a 16' Bayliner (LOL). Actual in a Carrera Party Eeffect. You can see pics in Jan 2002 FP&B mag.

Kenwood disc changer
8 6" mids
4 1" tweeters
2 8" subs
2 12" subs
2 big sony xplode amps
finally got it dialed in after 2 years and to much cash. Next time around I will definetly go for simplicity. Make sure your amps and fuses are easy to get to. If I had it to do over I would just do 4 12" subs and as many 6x9s as you need. Done deal. Catnaround is right, the remote on the back is key! Good luck. Systems are a mandatory part of boating! Rock on

You must have used an RTA meter to dial that sucker in. You may want to add a Mecca power booster to that.

What speed can you guys get up to before the wind (or blower whine) starts drowning out the great sounding tunes?

Boatjob
01-29-2002, 05:51 PM
RobbieRacer- I have twin outboards on my boat with a big sound system. i can hear the music until about 80 mph when the wind becomes very intense. You can hear it passed that but it isn't too clear.

Hell, I like the schoolbus...it's really "old school"...the question is...are you going to take the HH Tugboat "to school" next summer? Piece of cake...she's bigger, heavier, and a little SBC against your BBF...right?
If you don't like the zebra patterned genuine-imitation sheepskins, then I'll get the cool "cow hide" pattern.
Robbie Racer- the key to hearing my bad-ass Sparkomatic-sponsored system is that I have no blower to whine (just Joe), and it won't go over 55MPH, so no wind noise.

Boat Job, that is very impressive. I have a similar type of hull with the Carrera 257 and am looking to add a sound system before this summer. I didn't think you could clearly hear a decent sound system past 50 but if you can hear it up to 80, I'm sold. Where do you have the 12's mounted? Is it better to mount them under the bow facing aft or under the rear seat facing forward?

Boatjob
01-29-2002, 08:34 PM
Robbie Racer- Well since I have outboards, it makes it a little easier. The subs are mounted facing the stern of the boat, each in sealed boxes located about 5 feet from each tip of each sponson. Also location of the highs and miidrange also makes the sound quality better. My tweeters are located almost at ear level, so they soound really clean. I would recommend putting the subs underneath in the cabin versus under the back seat. When you put the subs underneath in the cabin, the subs use all the area under there to boom. I think it sounds better. Hope my info helped. Also I'm sure as you know, quality speakers ar ehared to find too. That's probably the easiest way to make your syatem awesome.

Now that I have seen the insane sound systems put into boats, has anybody used a dB meter ? If so how hard did it hit? Just interested which hits the hardest

BoatFloating
01-30-2002, 09:21 PM
RR, if you have a closed bow then I suggest you put the 12" subs enclosed in the bow. I have the Carrera Party Effect and have a ton of power (stereo) and do 70 and I don't play stereo when I'm running topped out for 2 reasons. No matter how good of a system you have once you start running you need to crank system up to hear it and trust me it's like hitting the rev limiter you can only handle so much. This drains batteries and decreases the life of the speakers and the bass losses it's umph when you start rolling. If you notice in a car your bass hits harder when you are stopped. So by not playing it this gives your batteries time to charge and you would have more power when you need to hear it, thru the channel or at the sandbar. The other reason I don't play it is on most CD changers and head units they skip all over the place. Sony came out with a pretty trick changer CDX 747, it has a 12 second delay so it can handle the rough water. I have that and a Mini Disc changer and that one has a 10 second delay, so I never skip a beat, well maybe once or twice when it's really rough. So to be honest save your power for the right time. Make sure you try to mount your tweeters has high as possible and keep your amps cool and dry... Good Luck........... BF

I'm running the following in my 34' Magic
Sony head unit with 10 disk changer and remote commander
6 6x9 JL speakers
4 sets of JL 5" speaker and tweeters.
4 12" JL dual coil subs.
4 225.2 Rockford Fosgate amps.
4 Blue top Optima batteries with battery isolators.
The only thing that sucks is the built in volume control - the kids. Everytime I turn it up they start screaming "it's too loud". It also gets kind of embarrasing playing their music loud, you know all the boy band crap, and stuff you hear on Radio Disney.

I think it's a Clarion sub in a custom fiberglass enclosure. That place does alot of high end (Ferarris, etc.) installs, so I think they needed a place to show off their new toy.

Wimpy setup, inaudible at anything higher than idle.
However, a buddie who works at Harmen International - they own Harmen Kardon, JBL, Infinity - has agreed to hook me up with the following:
1 - Kappa 692Marine 6x9
2 - Kappa 62Marine 6.5
2 - Kappa Perfect 10.1d Dual Coil 10" sub
2 - Kappa 62.3l 6.5
2 - Kappa 693.3l 6x9
1 - JBL BP600.1 sub amp
2 - JBL P80.4 4-channel

Hopefully I'll be able to hear this system over everyones exhaust. Gosh I love boating!

The boat has been completely sponsored by Focal, Zapco, and Eclipse. The 4k watt amp is a limited production amp that they are only making 4 maybe 6. The amp looks like a big cube. It weighs about 60lbs and is 20" long, 6" wide, and 6" high. It is a monster. The 50 farad cap was designed to be compatable with the amps. That big amp gets real power hungry and a constant supply of power must be maintained. 6k watts takes up a lot of power. I do not know if the 10 disk changer is new or not. I just know that I put what they sent me into the boat. The boat hits like crazy and is competition clean. I couldn't tell you what the settings are, just know the basics and turn it up. But by the end of the day no matter what the batteries are DEAD

Your system must be a site to see.
I have just 1 question. Why all that power? I mean you can only go so loud, right? 12 volt systems that are shooting for 155+ db's have lexan windows, steel bracing, and some w/conctete in panels all to keep the sound in for max db. Most of the time they're in mini vans and not convertibles....
I guess if it's a free sponsorship, take it.

The reason why they gave all of the gear is to show off what they have and what the companies can do. It was a good way to break out into the boating market. Eclipse has been in the boating market for a while, but Zapco and Focal have not. They are using the boat as a showpiece. It will be in the SEMA show next year as well as audio magazines. When you show off, you go with the best. I do know that my big amp (4k watt) is turned down. I have already launched 4 pairs. yes pairs of subs in the boat. Power is definitely an overkill, but it is enough to power the system.

RUN2RIVER,
I had several systems in the late 80's that were Zapco powered. They were, and I am sure still are, awesome amps. I had a toyota truck with 4 system 200's with 3 bridged to run the subs. I had 6 10's and 2 12's in the bed, and 6 8's in the cab for subs. the system hd 32 speakers total with the rest consisting of mids and tweeters all hidden in door panels and vents. Back then Fosgate was everywhere but Zapco was a little known company. the sound from that system was awesome and very clean. I am running Fosgate stuff now in my boat, but I still feel Zapco was and probably still is better.

Roz,
I live in Vista. The truck you are talking about was Steve's (I forget his last name). He was sponsored by precision before me. My truck was white with a snug top with no windows. It said Precision Auto Sound on the side of the shell. I was also sponsored by precision.
They also did a Camero for me with two system 200's and 4 10's, and another toyota truck where they cut out the metal of the cab behind the seats and the bed. It was a non extra cab truck and they ported a box through the bed into the cab. It would trip people out because the truck did not look like it had the room for a large system, but it would be "thumping" very hard.

I have heard the 12w7's and they sound great for bass, but from my experience they are not "clean" subs. The do not sound as good as the 12w6's if you play something that hits fast. Maybe the guy had them crossed over wrong or something. Overall I havent heard them enough to make judgement. Just heard them the one time. The other subs that I have been thinking about at either AlumaPros or TREO's. Familiar with either of the subs? I have heard the AlumaPros and they are extremely clean, but they don't take as much power as the other subs. Maybe I will have to turn the amps down if I get them. The TREO's I have heard and I was impressed, but again I don't know about them. The MMATS subs from what I have heard are good, but I have had bad experiences with a rep from MMATS at one of the db drag competitions. (not what i am into, but fun to go to). I swore I wouldn't buy a MMATS product. Any other suggestions? I hate tearing out subs everytime I blow them up? Oh and by the way, any idea how the airspace of the recomended subs require? The existing boxes (designed for the 12w6's are glassed into the boat. I don't want to have to rip them out if I don't have to.

The "system" I have right now requires 4 D batteries and 6 AA batteries. Hey, it has a remote though!! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/tongue.gif
Actually the system that was in my boat was completly ruined by a ripped storage cover and a very heavy rain storm. It's taking me a while to build it back up.... I'm not sponsored like some of you. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/frown.gif
So far I just have 2 15" Vegas and a Clarion amp. I don't recall the exact model, but a friend of mine gave it to me out of sympathy and claims it's about 1000watts. Whatever, it's a start and has yet to be installed.

Whats up with all the small sound systems?
I'm loaded for the party, I do DJ services with my Mirage River Racer, on the lakes in E. TN. I got a 1000 watt Peavy amp, full rack with CD wheel, mini disc, double tape deck, 16 channel board with effects....
Speakers include 6-10", 4-12", 2-15", 4-subs, & 4-horns... we carry 6 wireless mics and a full truss of lighting system.
Now do you think you can still hear your system? let's party.....

I must be the oddball here, but I have no music in any of my boats. I only want to hear the sweet sound of blower motors or two strokes screaming.

If your boat travels faster than the speed of sound, would you still hear the stereo?
