I was just noticing that. The important thing is that you have some. The center takes alot of pounding, I've broken them in the past. You could always add a couple right inside the hoses if you end up bustin em. :D

I have a SERIOUS ski race boat question...
On all of these Schiadas the ski tow is pretty tall off the transom. What does the bracketry look like inside? I am thinking even towing a twig like myself, there has to be some support so as not to rip that right off the transom.
Brian
SD, feel free to just read, since your experience towing in a Schiada has got to be pretty limited.

As you can imagine, there is usually a cross stringer brace incorporated into the rudder brace at the base, and then another further up the transom just below the carling. They are rock solid, there's no torque on the deck at all.
Elsinore may be stinky, but you can still run hard there. Where else can you do that (hi speed zone) 15 minutes from the ramp?..

ok, looks like I need to pull off my external rudder hardware and get it polished - That looks really cool.
Went down today and spent the day detailing the bilge. Motors out for rebuild. Last month was really cold up here in Idaho. Finding a loose freeze plug and water in the oil pan is not good. I drained the water out of the motor last fall, but drained from the water pump, not the lower fittings below the exhaust manifolds. I get the jack ass award. Atleast everything except for the block is good. Once I saw the loose freeze plug, I knew not to fire her without checking the oil.
Depending on where the crack is, sleeving may work, but have to get in and see where the crack is.

Hallet - Nice shot! I'm jealous. I should pull my rig down in the spring and park it on the WSU or University of Idaho campuses and claim that I'm from HOT BOAT Magazine, looking for models to hang out on my Schiada in two pieces (it's worth a try). I'll make up free stringy shirts to go with it that says Schiada Racing. I wonder if I could get Lee to sponsor the shirts? Now that's an idea to ponder. I would have to get those photos posted.

Hey Mike, I remember "Crisp & Clean", #300, as a 21' Hallet in the early 80's, things change.
Here is a trivia question, in the early 80's what was the cleanest Ski Race boat running around?
And no, the #800 blue Schiada, while certainely very nice on the eyes was not it?
Have a great day!

From the early 80's - let's see if my 0-9 class memory can recall. Sam Moss had some really nice 21' Rayson Crafts, Sunny Tan with his setup, Billy Dunsmore with his 21' Schiada, Billy Way with his #84 Blown 20' Schiada with Zoomies on it. (this boat would launch out of the water and take a light weight skier and clear the water by a foot or so coming out of the hole - no turbo setup could hang with it). My dad's NWSRA #47 boat was pretty cool. An then my favorite, CJ Baker for having his clamp on fly in the wind anytime spectators were around (had to be a hell of a skier to ride behind him, because the boat was always in the air). Then there's the Armoral colored Schiada - Joules Vandenbrauch's. Another newer boat to the circuit, Flying Colors was pretty sweet as well. All child hood memories for me. And don't forget Edelbrock, with his 3 boats and sea plane. I remember clearly at Crazy Horse - 'Vic Edelbrock, please get your sea plane off the course'.
The early 80's had allot of sweet boats out there. The flat bottoms and 19's were starting to be fased out, and the 21's were coming into a class of their own. Schiada's and Rayson Craft's were owning the circuit. The motors were also getting bigger. This was the period where family ski racing was becoming more difficult to maintain it's competitive edge. Sponsors were moving in, and less participation compared to the early 80's. Plus, the speeds were getting up there to the point where wrapped up skiers were getting seriously hurt. The sport is still cool, though it would be better if it could get back to the number of participants that it had during the 80's.

The #300 that preceded the boat I have was a Hallett 19 owned by Bill Blankenship. I observed in it for several years (my back still hurts lol). Then he built the 21 S that I now own. Thinking back to the 80's RT always had nice looking 600 boats, the 800 was nice (observed in that too many years), yes Herbsts and Edelbrocks were always nice too. John Bemmer's Rayson was clean. Not sure which boat you're referring to as there were a lot of them back then.

Unfortunately, one of Sam's former boats are sitting in the bottom of Nacimiento out in front of Heritage Ranch (they may have got it out). I was working on the docks at the LNR (late 80's - early 90's in high school) when that show happened. Went to the air, came down, bottom of the boat blew out, and went down. That section of the lake gets pretty rough on the weekends. A few people got hurt and one drowned on that deal. Life jackets are a good thing, Lifelines are even better. I heard that there was some dry rot under the floor boards that made the hulls strength questionable. This is why I'm a big fan of open stringer floors.

Chula Vista - now that brings back some memories - complete with the Chula Vista theme song that was played before warm ups. That freak'in water was full of jelly fish. When you're in kindergarden and your observer (Earnie Earl) is loading you up to be thrown overboard in a school of Man-o-Wars, I didn't like it much. (it took a few years to get the mentality that there was a race going on - which came later for the triathlon side of life for me)
Grady Hill, I believe that he lived on Elsinore - I remember going over to his place with my dad when he was doing the installation on his boat.
