SAN FERNANDO, Calif. -- Joey Buttafuoco, 50, is heading back to jail, this time on the West Coast.
A decade ago, Buttafuoco, a Long Island, N.Y., body shop owner, became a household name when the so-called "Long Island Lolita" story broke. He had been dating a teenage Amy Fisher when she shot his wife in the head. Buttafuoco pleaded guilty to statutory rape and did a four-month prison stint.
Now he's being sentenced to one year in a California lockup after pleading no contest to possessing ammunition as a felon. Los Angeles County probation officers found the ammunition during a search of his home in Chatsworth, Calif., last August.
The reason they were checking his home is that Buttafuoco is still on probation for a 2004 guilty plea to insurance fraud. Buttafuoco had been sentenced to a year in jail and five years' probation in March 2004 after pleading guilty to that crime.
Prosecutors said Buttafuoco, who co-owned an auto body shop in the San Fernando Valley, told undercover investigators how to file false claims and cheat insurance companies.
This time around, Buttafuoco has to report to jail Nov. 1.
