How many of you guys sealed the seam on your boats where the top meets the bottom and those that did what did you seal it with fiberglass mat and resin or did you go with something else?

I have a rub rail, and I RTV'd the inner bottom side to the rub rail. Clear RTV.

Steve,
You are referring to what is known as "capping" the boat -- do a search and you should find some good posts.
If your familiar with bodywork it is a pretty simple process, but yes you must remove the existing rub rail grind the seam and fill with strips of mat. You can do your finishing with any polyester based products i.e. short strand filler, "bondo", and a high build primer.
