I recently sold a 502-650 to a customer of mine that owns a Cougar MTR25. It uses a Bravo drive, 1.5 ratio and for the first trial he turned a Merc 4 blades 24 pitch at 5900rpm (best hp) and he barely reached 81-82 mph. To me the boat should perform better. Does anyone own the same tunnel boat (it was build in 1990) and what speed does it reach. Any suggestion about prop?
Thank's.

I would look at putting a 28 or 30 on it depending on water conditions and load in the boat. With a 1:5 ratio, the 24p is too small.

with that HP and a slightly larger pitch I would think it should pull 90's. It does sound like you need to trun mor like a 28 or so.
When I was looking at some of the older cats I found that most were built really heavy and they hadn't really dialed in the bottoms yet. This one does not have a step in it does it?

Looking at the max theoretical speed it calculated out to 89.4 mph. With your stated 81-82 mph that equates to 8% slip. Everything looks right on for a 24 inch prop. First question...does the motor have a rev limiter, and if so was it bumping up against it? Like the others stated I would jump to a 28 inch to start and see if you can pull the same rpm or nearly so. 24 inches of pitch just seems real low for a 600 hp motor.
