View Full Version : HELP!! Need new Elim Daytona 25' w/525 (cat) INSURANCE NOW!!!

We are supposed to pick up our new 2007 Eliminator 25' Daytona w/525 (500HP) this week (open bow estimates 80-82 mph only) and we cannot find insurance! We've tried everyone people suggested on here, and the only one that would even give us a quote finally was Markel @ $6000 annual. That's crazy (and equal to 6 mos boat payments too!)
We have excellent driving records, are a couple in our late 40's, and have cat experience and 15 years boat experience. The loan company is requiring the insurance.
Seems like 26' is the magic number to class it differently. Anyone with similar specs that can provide us your insurance contact, we really need your help!!! How disappointing this late in the process to run into this.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Advice to others, if you're on the fence with buying a 25' or 26', wish we'd gone 26 now. The 525 doesn't help either.

Believe it or not, I got thru State Farm... I pay 890 a year. I also have a 525. Mine is a V bottom, I am sure that is the issue.
Good Luck.... Get out the checkbook!

Whats really insane is a $1000.00 a month boat payment. Damn if you can afford that... whats another $500.00 a month for insurance. I wish I could do that

I bet that could be insured by Allied, not Markel. She can do that.

We plan to boat mostly on Havasu/River (and now will try Mead and Powell), and keep it in Havasu (have a house there).
Eliminator is helping us...they gave us refs to Devin Wozencraft and Markel...the problem is Devin only does 26 feet or greater....everyone has a problem with 25'.
By the way it does have a swim step already, but isn't there some official paperwork that will say 25'?
*** Does anyone have a 25' tunnel hull like, with a 525 and INSURANCE? ***

Who's says we can afford it? This is a big stretch for fun (you only live once!) We just didn't account for incidentals..ooops.

Call Tena at Strachota Insurance here in Havasu. (928) 854-8808. I am sure that it won't be cheap, but Tena will make sure that you are properly insured and the premium will be as fair as possible. None of that "my blown cat does 60mph" crap.

But be careful as a policy written by an agent is not a sure thing in this business. It can be rejected by the underwriters a month or two later and you are left with a cancelation letter. All legal.

With a 1,000.00 a month boat payment you better hope you don’t live to 100. :)

I am an insurance agent here in Ohio. I have owned several go fast boats. I've had a blown Kachina jet and a 29 Baja Outlaw. I was looking at a 26 American Offshore and no one would touch the boat for insurance. Insurance companies get really scared to insure cats for some reason even with a lot of boating experience. The rules that my company has is NO cats, nothing over 500 horsepower, and nothing over 70mph unless it's a stupid bass boat. Pretty much the only reason that I didn't buy the American Offshore is because I couldn't get insurance. It's a shame I know but boating is expensive. But DO NOT lie about the performance of the boat to get the insurance NO MATTER what because if something catistrophic happens and they find out you lied. They will deny your claim!!!!! Denny

No, we did not look into insurance in detail when we bought, any more than just reading what you guys were posting for what it was costing you. We never read about anyone paying over $2800 and on much longer boats.
I believe Tena is only doing what they give her (nothing personal)...we're just in sticker shock...

Who do you have your home and car insurance with? Set up a meeting with one of the big names and offer to move everything over if they will insure your boat. It pays to have it all with one man or woman. I have a 24' HTM Cat with a Mercury 600 SC. $1275.00 a year (Allstate)
