Never used a carb spacer/throttle body spacer before and I've always heard nothing but good things about them but I don't think i've seen anyone on here use one. Why is that? Am I just not noticing? .02 from anyone?

Are carb spacer's used on tunnel ram setups? Or has the top-end increased enough with the ram?

Enough = when there is no more to increase
...so i guess what i'm asking is do they help along with the tunnel? i have performer intake, edel 750, tunnel ram

Would someone with a cylinder head flow bench test setup be able to determine?

There are definetly guys out there running them on jet boats and there are some added benefits. Theres a good article in Drag Racing Magazine that covers the spacers in prety good depth. From my understanding diferent types, materials, thicknesses and patterns will give you diferent results. Heres the link the magazines website if your interested. Youll have to go buy the magazine but you can atleast see what the cover looks like. There should also be some pictures of them in the photo gallery as well.

I run a SBC and a book I have says a 1" spacer is optimum. Not sure if that is too specific for you or if the book is BS, but I run one and like it. Of course I haven't done any scientific coparisons but it seems to work pretty well. One benefeit is that if you use a plastic one, it is supposed to lower your fuel temps but this is probably a little more for under the hood of a car than a boat (maybe with an enclosed motor it's applicable). There are many varieties and they probably do many things differently but generally, higher carb ='s higher fuel/air velocity which fills the cylinders better and makes more torque down low. That is a huge generalization though. They're not expensive, go buy or borrow a couple and give them a try. Let us know what you find out-Aluminum Squirt

I use one. Don't know if it helps or not, but it's on there. I think you don't see many of them because everyone here but me    has a dual quad tunnel ram.

I've had real good luck with the Super Sucker spacers. Of all of the motors we've run on the dyno with them, 19 hp gain was the least gained. Some gained as much as 22 hp. The really straighten up the air/fuel ratios on a Demon carburetor at part throttle. Good Piece!

Hey Droppy, you've not alone, remember? I'm running a spacer on my single 4bbl and am thinking about stacking 8 2" spacers. Figured it'd make it look like I have a tunnel ram from about 1000 feet which is about where my boat looks good anyhow.

Now that there's a solid point.
Besides, even if it's a 1000footer, it still gets as much if not more interest than any Wakeboard boat and most of the big dollar offshore stuff (which I am jealous of and would de-nut myself on public TV to own one).

Oh yeah, I forgot about you, then there's two of us without dual quad's...LOL ! As for your boat being a 1000 ft'r...I'm callin' BS !!! But your spacer idea is right on the $$$$ !!! I've always thought Sprite had it all wrong, IMAGE is everything !!!
When the hell are you going to go boating with us John ! ? ! ? ! ?

Ya know Droppy, I (no correct that) we, are so iff'n pissed about how this summer is going I can't even tell you.
Every stinking weekend has something going on already that we cant blow off without friends or family becoming pissed at us that it's become nutz. We've had the boat out here in the bay twice and that's it. It's killing me.
And it's not like we have many friends either.........sheesh
As far as getting together with you, once you started complaining about your boat riding funny once you got past 100mph :crossx: I knew we were never able to go boating together. Hell, about the time we were pulling away from the boat launch you'd be coming in after a day on the water and the crappy thing is we would have launched at the same time......... :yuk:
Take care and keep in touch and say hi to the family.

Sucks you've been so busy. Is that the norm for you this time of year ??? Any chance you can make it out on the 12th of next month for a day of boating ? Do you know about the 30th of Sept at my house ?
As for the 100 mph, speed isn't what matters, it's how many beers your boat holds :) .

Part of it's work and part of it's just cuz we have too many irons in the fire.
Can't make it out on the 12th cuz we are looking forward to babysitting #1 (insert proud grandpa corny stuff here)

I didn't know about the 30th dealio and we'd love to come. Let us know what you need. Malcolm really likes how my poppers stick with him for a few days :crossx:
As far as holding beer, you killed me in my garage so the challenge is on.........sucka :rollside: :rollside: :rollside:

a 2" spacer on my boat was worth 100 rpm. The spacer slows the air down going through the carb which in turn draws less fuel with it so the jetting may have to go up slightly.

Spacers galore. I put his modified TB on my '99GMC. Picked up 2mpg on the HWY.

Car Craft dyno tested an Olds with a Performer intake w/no spacer and made roughly 469 HP. They switched to a Torker with a 1" spacer and HP jumped to 496.6. Straightens out the airflow is my guess.
I run a 2" aluminum spacer, and when I've been running for a bit, I will see condensation build up on the exterior of the spacer, must be cooling the charge as well. My SS Russell fuel tanks get pretty hot when sitting in the sun, can only imagine how warm the fuel must get.
Didnt ***boat do an article on a 730HP low maintenance beast from DNE that was using a tunnel ram. They milled out a 1" teflon spacer for the ram to add more volume to the intake and bring the power curve down a bit?

did they re-test the olds with the performer intake also? or just the torker? the performer flows better than the torker correct? i would think hp would be even higher if they left the performer on

1st test was with performer and no spacer = 469 HP
2nd test was wit Torker and 1" spacer = 496.6 HP
Somewhere in the article they put on the Torker, made a dyno run and then put on the spacer and made another dyno run. I think. (been a while) Check out the dyno chart.
