Ok we both have Baja boats. I have a 272 with a 502mpi. Stock :argue: And he has a 24 outlaw, 454mpi headers, lab prop, recurved ecm. Both boats are geared the same 1.50 to 1 and both boats run 23p Props. Every time that we go out whitch is like every weekend we have to race. Some times my boat is faster, and some times his boat is faster????? I think that It all depends on how much fuel and weight we have in the boat. I dont want to spend tons of money just to be a little faster but, Everybody like to win, especially when its your buddy!!! His boat runs right at 5000 WOT. and mine runs at 4800 WOT. I dont know if I can just get my stock 23p shaved to get the blades thiner to maby get another 200 rpm and just get by him or not??? Maby its going to take a lab prop to get it done?? I just know that his it at the end of the line for him before he starts to get into major motor work, or a procharger, or supercharger. I havent even got started!! Any body got any reasonable suggestions with out breaking my bank???
Thanks

Once you start there is no ending, as he will do as you and you have to do as him and on and on!!!!!!!!!!!

Go play in the ocean and see how that 24' likes trying to keep up with the 27'er, especially in rough water. :D :D :D

In the long run, the faster boat will belong to the one willing to spend the most.
Until then, disconnect one of his plug wires. :crossx:

Well i dont plan on ever putting my boat in salt water but the plug wire would last about 1 sec before he knew something was up. I'll think of something?

Talk him into supercharging his 454 MPI. He will blow it up in no time and then you will be faster. I'm sure some will disagree but the 454 MPI is not built to handle supercharging.

So are you saying that my 502 is better to supercharge. I always wanted to put a procharger on it. But lack the extra $5000 to do it.

LunaticFringe
07-17-2006, 06:58 PM
Yep. Both Teague and Whipple admitted that even though they make a kit for the 454 MPI, the 2 bolt mains and the vortec heads don't lend themselves to supercharging very well.
Your 502 has neither of these issues.

I'd upsize on the prop to a 24 or 26........cheapest way to gain a little on the topend.

Set him up with the Playboy twins!!
With the extra weight you will walk past him...... but then....why?????

I tryed a 22p four blade and got more rpms but it went slower 2 or 3 mph. I just thought that a 24 or evan a 26 would be to much for the boat and i would be dogging it a bit. What do u think ???

you can ask around locally
or send it out
if your prop is in god shape $200 to lab it
or you can order a new one from mercury performance
Bronson hill will build you a prop to
post this question in cat and tunnels or Offshore Sport Boats you will get a better response

unless your prop just came out of the box there will be some minor work to do to it
and you will have shipping cost to about $25 bucks both ways could be less

Just take a lesson from fast freddy and post that you smoked him after you turned on your blower.
You know becuase if you read it on the internet it must be true.
Then everyone will know that your boat is faster so there is no reason to race him.

1) Properly trimmed
2) Less weight (everything goes except for the cooler and enough gas to get you back to the dock.
3) Clean and wax your hull.
4) keep your tracking straight.
5) check swimstep for drag, drive alignment, prop trueness.
6)after you hit 55mph Aero dynamics are big. anything sticking up is drag...bow rails, wind screens, your head, etc.
7) Ram Air intake, NOS injection

Are you running a 3 blade? If so go to a 4 blade. You can contact Teague Marine and get your prop labbed or get a new one.

I would say on a serious note that if you were to go get 24P and have it labbed as said before 4800-5000 is top on your motor for longevity, but then invest in a good set of headers then new filter and comp. programing you should have no problem beating him everyday then
