View Full Version : Stringer mounted seats

The seats in my boat were just screwed to the stringer (screws vertical). My stringers did have a little rot, luckily I found it before it got real bad. Is it somewhat typical to see some rot when seats are mounted like this, or is this something that shouldn't have happened?
I'm trying to decide if I should drill horizontally through the stringer, through bolt aluminum angle, then bolt the seats through the horizontal leg of the angle.
Is it worth the work to use the aluminum, or should I just run the screws vertically through the stringers and use something to try and seal up the screws?

The seats in my Sprint were mounted with aluminum angle and thru-bolted. When I redid the interior, I found no rot in the stringers. However to keep it that way, before I reassmebled everything, I brushed in some resin just to be sure.

just abot all boats with full stringers are alum angle braced to the stringers with a couple of bolts........easy and strong........never had a problem with it myself

That's the way mine are fastened as well. Aluminum angle and through bolted to the stringer.
Congrats on selling your boat PC and looks like you've picked up a nice project to take it's place.

Yeah, the wife got a ride in it Saturday. She gave it a big thumbs up! More ammo for me to hopefully get a fast boat someday. ;)

I really hope the new owners enjoy the Placecraft.
The PC has aluminum angle through bolted and there was no rot in the stingers, and it is 10 years older than my Daytona.

He was enjoying it Saturday. Made all the rest of our boats look pretty plain. :)

I've got a set of abreviated stringers outboard of the mains. I used aluminum on both sets for added strength. Mine were lagged once upon a time. IMO this is the only way to go. Probably not necessary to have the added mount, but I figured this way they'll never come loose.................and they haven't.
I built a base by using two pieces of 4" angle and squeezed the stringer between them. I also raised the seats up a couple inches so they weren't sitting on the stringer. It's a little discomforting to people that are used to sitting low, but I like it.

Looks good squirtcha. Think im going to do something like that, maybe not sitting so high off the stringers though =P. Got any more pics of the interior? Looks pretty clean under the seats.. just wondering what the rest looks like!

Thanks. It's really pretty utilitarian when compared to some of the nice interiors these guys are running, but it's nice n sturdy and gets the job done.
