So I just purchased a box anchor. Never used one before...how do you set the anchor in the mud? when you throw it out there, does it matter how it lands on the bottom of the lake?

Pretty much. I have never had a problem with mine, I just throw it in and let it drop. It's a great anchor, you will like it.

It sets pretty well by itself. as you pull against it, it sets deeper. As with any anchor, more scope is better. It does tend to drag a bit of mud up with it when it comes up. I always have to swish it around in the water to get the goo off depending on where I have anchored.
If it is a shallow fast current, like off a sandbar I will stomp it in by standing on the back two flukes. Be sure to put a float on it so no one trips on it. And engrave your name on it so you can ID it as yours.....

What about pulling it up. I know with my current one, if need be I can drive over it and it will release.
Same?

Same thing, just go over it and it'll come up, I just bought one two months ago, wow what a great anchor, although I think I get hurt everytime I try to throw it out! That thing is mean! You'll love it....... :220v:

The one I carry on the boat for the sand bars are teriffic,, just use rope and floats.
The one we moor with I have 6' of heavy chain to cut down on the drifting.

Yup... box anchor attached to 6' of Home Depot's heaviest chain, and you're set for the day...
