From the Chamber's newsletter:
A Diamond Key Is Oasis Appearing on the Island
Within five years the Island will be converted into a small oasis that will house 362 new homes, a Holiday Inn, a new city park with an
extended bike path, and more commercial ventures. The developer, A Diamond Key, has it parceled into five huge sections—90 houses on two parcels, 121 townhouses on one parcel, 76 patio homes on one parcel, and 74 dual homes (like duplexes) on one parcel—all two-story structures. According to project manager Jerry Tucker, everything is moving along as planned. "A Diamond Key is owned by Jerry Schmitz who lives here part time and is building a home here," said Tucker. "This is a master-planned community with mixed use development, both residential and commercial." Tucker, who has been in Lake Havasu City for three years now,
comes from Florida where he worked as a general contractor for 20 years. "It didn't take me long to get use to this weather," said Tucker. "I like Arizona. I've had my moments of doubt, but I am building a home here."
Those who have ventured on the Island have already seen the construction taking place—105 acres in the center slice are being readied for some major reformation. Tucker said there are other areas designated as a resort site (5.5 acres) and for casitas (6.6 acres). There is also 5.4 acres currently open as commercial property.
"The city park in the center is 15-acres," said Tucker. "It will have Ramadas, play areas, a large grassy section, plants, it will connect to the existing bicycle path and the park will be dedicated to the city. There will be several access points to it from the road and there will be a public parking lot."

There were talks a while ago that the city was going to build another bridge that connects to the island to relieve some congestion from the London Bridge. I haven't heard anything lately. Maybe somebody else from the board has heard an update.

A second bridge is needed bad! I heard when they build it, there would be a one-way path around the island.

How far from the Island to the CA side?
Its .335 miles from the tip of site 6 directly accross. That is the shortest point, but who knows where the bridge would go.

I agree, but it will be just like every other idiotic move they make...they will build, and then figure out what to do, when nobody can get thru for 2 hours!

This bridge is proposed to cross near the Sandbar, although the local Havasu residents don't want it.......
There is no hospital, as well as other services on the Cali side.....

"The city park in the center is 15-acres,"
Who wants a city park in the center of the island, surrounded by 2 story buidings?
That'll be fun in the summer...

I have been in a few develoment meetings regarding Havasu, and nothing will happen until that bridge it built. So, when you see the bridge going up, then expect more to happen.
Those meetings I am talking about are not official city meetings, but more of our group that have been looking at a few things.

The development on the Island is a travesty - taking the last bit of undeveloped land in the city & turning it into a high-class ghetto for the ignorant wealthy. Rumor has it that Michael Eisner is the money behind the project - he Fu**ed the Disney company for everything he could & now he's turning his finances into other ventures where he can make every possible nickel shafting other people.
Do a search of Diamond Key on the local paper online - you'll be amazed at what price the city sold the center of the Island, or what I should say - you'll be shocked at what Diamond Key didn't pay for the land.....do the words 'fair market price' mean anything - not to the people that gave away the land.
Besides, what ever happened to the stated plan that no construction would start until the second bridge was built (from the area between the Cultural Center & Crazy Horse across to the land adjacent to the condos near In N Out), or the fact that these millionares buying these homes do not have any direct launch ramp access (other than public ramps)? Or how will the millionares feel, knowing that the same unsavory crowd that hangs out at the other public parks in Havasu (that the city is trying to kick out of the other parks with new ordinances), will now be hanging out in their backyard (in the Public Park on the Island)?
And yes, someone did shiat in my corn-flakes this morning.......I spent the weekend moving crap out of my parents old garage, into new quarters in the 100+ degree heat....

They have started construction. There are homes in the framing stages now. They really need to start on that bridge NOW.

Our city will do the bridge thing just like they do everything else.
First, some developers from outside our area will come here and buy great
property for nothing. We get screwed.
Second, said developers will make a ton of money and cause the bridge situation to get worse than it already is.
Third, said developers will price their homes etc for the super rich
Fourth, these super rich buyers are rarely boaters but instead are those
that love to bitch about everything which will include OUR way of life and
our boats etc. I wonder how these old farts can bitch about the noise
when they're all hitting up Medicare for hearing aids, that's another story.
Fifth, the rich new island homeowners will start an organization to shut
down the lake even worse than the present regime.
Sixth, the city council will realize that the second bridge is 5 to 10 years late and will panic looking for money to build the second bridge.
Seventh, the city will call the developers that made all the money on OUR
land that was GIVEN to them for next to nothing and will get a busy tone.
Eighth, YOU and I will bite the big one and pay for the bridge so that WE
can get to the island in a timely manner like we could years ago before
our city put it's head in the hot sand.
Ninth, the fat cat developer guys got richer while creating a mess for us to pay for. Why not make them pay a good portion of the second bridge, it's
their new homes etc that will create the absolute need for the second bridge.
As long as the island is not developed I don't need a second bridge. It's easy, if you create the need for the second bridge, then you should pay for it. I like my logic.

Wow, I quit paying attention to it when my idea was deemed impossible, but all the things I understood was that it could no way happen.
Wonder what they did or who they paid off?
