Went out to Havi with the wifey. She is really getting behind the idea of owning a cat/tunnel. We got way pampered in my buddys 06 28 Daytona w/525s (114mph w/stock 34b1 on the limiter). What a ride, plain and simple to much coin for us. Need some input 23MTR,22 Daytona? Going to go B1/XR and build my own engine. So the builder that I choose will have to work with me or just go with a 350mag and use it as a back up. Does anyone remember a 22 tunnel called a Rapid Craft Twister22. I could have sworn I saw a red one with tan interior in Hot Boat 5 or 6 years ago. Does Talon still have a 22? Just needing some input, Thanks

If you want anything bigger then a 496 in your tunnel, buy a 26 tunnel...right now they will be easier to insure then a 22...; also, there are a lot of nice used ones on the used market right now.

there is an 03 27 cougar cat with 300x's, low hours and in the 50-60k range. seems like a smokin deal.

I also have room issues . A 23 footer is going to be way tight. Going to need a swing hitch for sure.

Oh and the engine will be a all alum. 440 inch traditional small block. Painted black with stamped steel valve covers and all!

I'd recommend DCB's Mach 22. It's a little smaller than the 22 Daytona and MTR...But certainly can handle just as nicely. We've got somebody in Havasu who just built one with the Ilmor 625. It is SICK.
No Rapid Craft is no longer around.

A big motor in that size boat eats up a lot of room. I would go outboard on a nice mach 22. Oh yeah.... im selling a real nice one in the spam section! Good luck finding your new boat.

We can put together a 24 footer for you with canopies.
Smaller boats? 22DCB, i think Eliminator retooled the 22 daytona and the 24 HTM, 23 ultra deck and i think aftershock still builds the 23WPM.
I think the Cougars are layed up in Kansas now if that helps.

Yeah the Rapid Craft twister is no longer made but a bad ass boat. Its all foam core no wood just klegcell and super rigid. The talon 22 is also bad.A guy in Canada has the molds. He now is vacume bagging the hulls and could get them as light as 600lbs and still not lose any strength issues of the hull.My buddy talked to him several times.

Sweet , I was wondering what had happened to those molds

I have a 23' WPM and really like it! It handles rough water much very well for its size and is a fast hull. Good luck!

I would find a clean 24 Skater with twin O/B's. The guy I sold my 28 to just sold his with 2.5's and it was running in the 110 area. I like the Mach 22 with O/B's as well, but it won't handle the water that a 24 Skater will.

I have a 22 Daytona and have nothing but good things to say. Fun, fast and very smooth. Just my $.02. Powered by a built 502 with a bravo, Runs 80 with light load. Insurance $800.00 per year.

Further checking has revealed a possible bottom revision of the 22 daytona :rollside: I had also heard the first one out will be powered by a 625 viper! Never found a 24 Skater but sounds cool.I could use some more info on these boats you all have mentioned as far as the handling with a bravo.

the first daytona is also going to be the light lay up. its coming along really nicely and my neighbor is the one who is getting that 1st one. he is thinking of putting the 525 in it but i told him there is no way.

GOOD LUCK getting insurance on a 22' cat with a 625 Ilmore. Gotta be $5000 a year easy. I would check into insurance rates as MBrown mentioned above before I bought any boat.

Take a look at the 224 Stoker it runs 80 with a 375 Merc and 95 with a 500, turns better than any of the others mentioned and has fewer insurance problems.

Saw two 224 Stokers rollin Topak last weekend when we were out. Running about 45mph high, dry and smooth. One had a sweet looking blown deal in it! I will look into the Stoker

Is there a web site for Stoker? BTW went to Eliminator on Sun. and checked the 22 Daytona. It is being completely re-tooled. Top to bottom. From what I saw, :rollside: a mini 27 Daytona with half canopies and all. Looks like about 6-7" more freeboard as well, over the previous 22! I couldnt tell if it was going to get a inner linner or not. And two maybe three little steps in the bottom. I think it is the same guy that designed the big 40' cruiser and some of the others, behind the new design. 525hp=90mph+

i'd check on ins. first and then have rms suck wake. good luck, lol.

Is it really going to be that bad. Is there any hp/mph/lenth/hull type equations from ins. companies. Like 79mph tunnel good, 81mph bad or 499 hp 22 tunnel good 501hp bad! Where are the breaks. This will determine the wake suckage.

DCBDaytona

When insuring a 21 Daytona, the threshold was 300hp with most Co's.
Seriously, if you're buying the the 21-24 cat range, just prepare to bend over. It's just part of the game.

26' cats and bigger seem to be insurable for a steep price. tunnels under 26 with any real power and your stuck.
check your pm's by the way.

How would a Stoker walk over snotty water compared to a 23' WPM, 22 Daytona, etc? I own a 23' WPM and love the straight line performance, but it turns like a cat. Not a negative toward the WPM hull, but more just the nature of the beast. Just looking for some real world experience if someone has some to offer! I know the Stokers corner like they are on rails!!

that there is the trade off. in a striaght line the wpm might handle another foot or so of chop height over the stoker. the daytona's probably the same as the stoker. this is just a guess, though.

I have a 2000 Eliminator 22 Daytona with small block power and it really runs! It has Mercs 377 cubic inch Black Scorpion with a bravo1 and it runs just a tick over 70 stock with EFI! Plenty of room and great ride as well...
