How about a big cresent wrench? Try Rex for the socket if you need it.

let me put it this way... I lagged it down to a 4x10 ... drove the truck on the 4x10 so that it would not move. 2 ft cresent on 1 side my 18" pipe on the drive shaft so it would not move. I striped out 4 of the 6 lag bolts I had it it.
There is another thread I started about the end cap nut. it took 3 ppl a 12' cheater bar and big brutha to break it free.

dood you need the right tools. Don't break the impeller tryin to pull it if it corroded without the correct puller.

If you could not get it like this, a socket is not gonna help. I had to cut the nut on mine off with a torch. Your gonna have a tough time with the impeller also. Your gonna have to heat it to break it loose.

If it's on there that good cut it off, the socket will do you no good for dis assembly. The socket comes in handy when re-assembling! You may want both ends (i did) so that you can hold the shaft from spinning when torquing the nut.

That how I did mine.
I had to heat the nut for removal. It would not budge with out the heat.

Made mine too from a napa cheepo socket. Extended it with some pipe and welded in an extension. Cost like 12 bucks and a little time.
also made a puller. See it here.

it's only worth it to make your own socket if you have the tools, i bought and still have a short socket that i was going to get cut and a pipe welded to it and i couldnt find anybody who would do it less than for about $50 bucks...

I guess that the right tool for the job is out of the budget,My time is worth more than the money, but I believe in the proper tools and know how always is less expensive in the long run.

A couple years ago I had to have a big wrench to change a ball joint, bought a set of 1 3/8" to 2" Worked great, combination wrenches.

Ok, with all that said ...Buy a new nut, take a hot wrench, and take your time not to get it to hot too fast, just the nut on the shaft then cut it in two places if you do this slow it will come off flawless, let cool and apply new nut with wrench...this is how I do it, works great in about 15 min. total...and cheep.
