Hatch Serving 51-Month Sentence For Tax Evasion
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The first "Survivor" winner has packed his bags and moved to a federal prison in Oklahoma.
Richard Hatch is serving a 51-month sentence for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million he won in the first season of the CBS reality series.
Hatch arrived last week at a hub for prisoners transferring through the federal system.
It's not clear why the 45-year-old Rhode Island resident was moved or whether he'll be headed for yet another facility.
Hatch was imprisoned earlier in a Plymouth County lockup in Massachusetts.

Why wouldn't he just pay the taxes and fines rather than letting it go so far as being imprisoned? What an idiot.

he was offered a plea bargain early on, but said he was going to fight it. now he gets to spend more time in jail and will still have to pay the taxes.. plus.

from what i have read he wont be going to the maximum security lockups.. but to a federal prison camp.
Minimum security institutions, also known as Federal Prison Camps (FPCs), have dormitory housing, a relatively low staff-to-inmate ratio, and limited or no perimeter fencing. These institutions are work- and program-oriented; and many are located adjacent to larger institutions or on military bases, where inmates help serve the labor needs of the larger institution or base.
