We are taking the boat to Lake Mead next weekend. Never been there. Is there a safe place to dry dock Friday and Saturday night? Wet slip? Any info on things to see/conditions/hazards of the lake would be greatly appreciated.

Just got back from a 4-day trip. Slips are available at Callville ($15/night). Plenty of day beaches. We had 23 boats one day and 20 the next on two seperate beaches. Have Fun!

We always go to Meadview. Its about 1.5 hours from Laughlin. It's a tiny town near the north end of the lake. It's really quiet and absolutely no crowds. We launched there 2 years ago on labor day weekend and there were 2 boats ahead of us in the ramp line.
There are 2 motels there. Nothing fancy, but if you want uncroweded boating, this is the place.

Do they have power at the slips? Is it hard to get one? I am heading there the end of August and hope the monsoons are over by then. I would prefer to leave the boat in the slip rather than take it back to the Green Valley Ranch Resort every day.

What about marina's/fuel on the water once you get away from the launch ramps? Looks like we are launching at Lake Mead marina.

What about from Echo or Overton Beach?

Best place to go from PHX area is Temple Bar if you can get a room. South side of the dam. The motel is basic and a little rough (park service concession/Seven Crown Resorts). TB has a full blown marina, gas, pump-outs, RV park, repair shop, store, retaurant, etc.
If you are looking for nightlife etc, go into Henderson/Boulder city and get a room and launch out of one of the Las Vegas area marinas.
Meadview/Southcove is just a ramp. The store and town are 8 miles from the ramp where you can get gas and very cheap basic hotels.
The ramp at Southcove is in bad shape right now. I would say max boat size would be a 24' right now. But, if you are looking for no crowds look at Meadview (Southcove) or Temple Bar.

The slips we had did not have shore power. Everyone stayed at the Lake Las Vegas Hyatt. We took over one of the docks :rollside: The weather held for us and we were never affected by a monsoon although we saw them in the distance.

FYI, Temple Bar was sold and is no longer under Crown Resorts.

Every Marina has fuel that I know of. You may have issues launching from Lake Mead Marina depending on the size of your boat.

Make sure you go check out the Narrows. Makes you feel like you are in a pirate movie. Dont be afraid to push off of other peoples boats, it is very narrow in there (lol, hence the name The Narrows :) )
Hemmingway is the only ramp I would stay away from. Super crowded (its the closest to Boulder City, so tons of out of towners, etc) and very shallow.
Sorry my boat is not done, or else I would meet ya out there.
Good luck and have lots of fun.

I defintely like launching from Callville but since they tore the road up leading to it, I have been going to Lake Mead Marina. I launch a 26' and have seen bigger boats launch from there also. Its also alot less of a hike but I wouldn't know that since I never park the truck and trailer, my girl does. :rollside:

Thank you for all of the input. We have a 28' deckboat and I think we are going to leave it in one of the slips at Lake Mead Marina with the cover on. Any thoughts on that? We are staying at a friends' house right beside the new Red Rock Casino. Are there places to get fuel away from Lake Mead Marina? We only have a 40 gallon tank(someday it will get upgraded like the rest of the boat) and need to run 91 octane. What about beaches at other parts of the lake?

Check the riverlakes.com link above. Should answer all your questions on the lake.

We will be in Lake Mead this weekend the 27-30. Staying at Echo Bay. Never been to Echo, usally go to Temple Bar. You should find gas an other ammenities (sp?) at all of the marinas (Overtons, Echo, Temple Bar, Mead marina, etc). Sandy Beach is the best beach, but quite a distance from Mead marina.

I think the outfit that runs houseboats out of Calville.
BTW, the road construction on the way to Calville is almost finished and not that bad. We launched & retrieved some pretty big boats out of Calville this past weekend with no issues.

I would just fill up at a gas station before dropping it in the water. There is gas at the marina if you need to refuel. Besides Sandy Beach which is just past Calville you should check out Swallow Cove. Its on your left side if your coming out of Lake Mead Marina right before you reach Calville. As far as leaving your boat in the water, I have done it a few times with no problems so have a few others I know. Just don't leave anything in sight of real value or that can be easily taken such as towables or life jackets.

Just got back from Mead last week and except for the monsoon on Wed, weather was awesome. Stayed at Hyatt also and Launched at Callville with no problems. Marina was nicer than I thought and they have workers with golf carts taking you to and from your car. Definitely check out the narrows. It is awesome on the east side. :rollside:

That is normally what we do... The Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas is nice.... and other than the hike at Callville, unless you are lucky enough to catch a cart, sucks.

Lake Mead is awesome & I agree, Temple Bar is a nice place if you do not want a crowd. Get ready for the wind. When it blows there it is worse than any place I've ever been. When it's calm or slight breeze, it is incredible.
I don't know who you are insured w/ but make sure you talk to your agent just in case L.M. needs to be endorsed onto your policy.

Wow, awesome shot! That lake has two "sides". One is very calm & the other is extremely rough. When I was a kid, my family had a 16ft Sleekcraft w/ a 140HP Merc (it had 115 decals to be legal). Anyway, is was so windy one weekend that the swells were huge (most things seemed big to a kid in a 16ft boat). Our boat would crest one wave, the outboard would come out of the water then we would head down the wave. At the bottom, the next wave would go over the deck and then we would head back up and start the whole ride over again and again... The bildge was on non-stop & to this day I don't know why we didn't sink. For those of you who haven't been to Lake Mead, it is huge! You can be miles from shore, help, gas etc.

We won't be on the water until Saturday a.m. next weekend. Sorry no pic's of our boat, it is a 28' Silhouette deck cat, with ugly teal & white gel and even uglier teal bimini, along with very ugly aluminum diamond plate engine cover. At least it has a brand new 502 under it. If you are there Next weekend, we will look you up. Rob

We stayed at Echo Bay at the beginning of July with a large group. Nice place...but the resort is now approximately 1/4 mile from the water (not their fault). However, the restaurant closes at 8:00 pm. We like coming off the lake betweeb 7:00-8:00 and by the time you get the boat out of the water, wipe it down and lug everything up, it's past 8:00. It's the only place to eat for miles and you are not allowed to have crockpots or any appliance/camp stove in your room/on your patio, so you are screwed. They did stay open a little later a couple of nights. One night we had to make sandwiches in our room. One night we complained so loudly they let us order our meals "to go" thru the bar. In addition, if you do get in before closing, be prepared to spend 2 hours (VERY short staffed). Everything else was fine with the resort. Lake was beautiful and very uncrowded (unlike Havasu).
