Reason...the 12" woofers in my 16 year old L100T3 JBL's just took a dump, :( I really loved the sound they produced.
I would like to rebuild them...not sure if parts are still available.

HD, if you ask your question on the Madisound forums, I'm sure you'll get an answer. Several years ago, they helped me fix up a pair of Polk SDA-1 speakers from the 80s that had a blown tweeter and a blown mid. I've hung out there ever since. There are some people there who are sharp.
I'm not talking about sharp because they have a stereo and they think it sounds good... there are a couple of guys there who I'm sure will know the full tested specs of the original drivers and be able to offer a good choice for a substitute with suitable specifications.

Thanks Tom...question posted, I hope they can help or offer up a drop in that's comparable to the great sound these old loud speakers produced.

The L100 is probably the finest speaker ever made, it's professional brother the 4311 studio monitor was the norm in almost all studios in the 70's It is a shame what has become of James B Lansing's company, a shell of the quality it once had, you should try E-Bay I have seen L100's on there, that way you could have replacement parts for yours.

That's the problem. Roughly none of the old speakers from the 80s are still around in the exact form they were then. In the last 5 years, there have been tons of refinements in materials and construction. Usually, there is something that is nearly identical to the original driver and likely even looks identical but has a few design updates and a new model number.
By the way, if those are foam surround speakers and the foam is shot, you can rebuild them with a new type of foam that will last much longer but has a nearly identical compliance.

Yep foam, and it literally fell apart in my hands when I touched them. The one woofer is hanging on by a thread, no foam to center it. Not to long ago I pulled the covers off to oil the cabinets...everything looked great...guess I pushed them toooo hard last night
Back in 91 they were over $700.00 each...still have the receipt.

Here's a direct link for their JBL (http://www.simplyspeakers.com/reconing-jbl.htm) price sheet page.
Good Luck.

More great info...thanks!
The more I think about it the more I believe my speakers simply need to be re-foamed! Once centered there's no scratching sounds from the voice coils. ;)

Sorry to hear that HD. I've always had good luck with them. Then again I always sent the speaker to them and let them do the repair. Maybe they will cross ship the correct ones.
Here's some surrounds on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-12-FOAM-SURROUND-REPAIR-KIT-128-2214-L100-L150_W0QQitemZ170015854051QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3276Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
For the 2214 I'm not sure if there's a difference in the 2214 Vs. 2214H though.
Honestly I think Simply Speakers is still the best route. But mistakes do happen. I'm sorry it was your order they screwed up on. Now I look like an ass for recomending them. :(

I asked the sales rep if he (needed) the outside demension of my 10" Speakers > the "cone" being 10"
He said... "nope we know what were doing" and sent me foam surrounds for a 9"
I'll see what they say tomorrow.

Did they send the right one yet ?

Radio Shack here in Havi has the foam(s), about $3 ea, used them to rebuild my Cerwin Vega AT12's,
so I am assuming any Radio Shack would have them

I have had my L100 re-coned (woofers) by a place in Ventura , CA that sells, rents and services pro audio equipment. If need be, I will research back the info. PM me if intersted.

I was able to locate the (exact) size replacement foam surrounds for my JBL's, none of the above sources had them.
I did the repair myself for $23.00 and they sound GREAT!
eBay...myaudioaddiction (814) had them...perfect!
