I was wondering why the water dumps are on the side instead of the transom. The only reason I can think of is so you can check for water flow while running. Is there more to it then that?

Yes, one more, when you're towing a dead boat for the PR of the thing, you can reach over and feel when you're in trouble with the JeRk. And if you have an electric, automotive pump, you can keep a force feed system flowing, as long as the pickups dont plug with debris! I did this for about 3 miles at a fast idle and impressed the BOYs! I was towing a Jones Starfire with a former SS veteran driver and his Mighty Mouse Motor {dead}! Go Girls! The same guy tried testing that day without his PROP installed!!! JeRksBlondieBomber smile_sp yuk

To answer that, I want you to picture Tevye, (played by Topol), in 'Fiddler on the Roof', singing the answer ...."Tradition !!!!!"

Ok, I have to install a few more dumps. Do you think I should spend more money on longer hoses to be a side squirter? I mean, I wanna be cool like you guys. And maybe if I use some small ones I could get it to squirt real far and spray the guy I'm passing. :D

I liked the idea of being able to check your water flow by just reaching down and feeling with your hand, but I didn't like the way the exiting spray (at speed) obscures the numbers or graphics on the side of the boat (I'm anal about appearance).
I installed my dumps on the driver's side near the transom, so I can just glance back whenever I want to check the flow.
FR :p

Are the guys that dump the water out the side, the same guys that can never tell you what the tach or oil pressure was reading just before it blowed-up?
The boat looks cooler in the pictures if you run it out the back.

Ah come on John ... the ride in a 18' flatbottom at 100 mph on the 3rd lap is a little different than the nice smooth ride of a 20'-21' GN V-Bottom cruiser. And don't make me show a picture of what can happen to even a GN boat if a driver takes their eyes off the water too long !!!!

gnRacer98
03-12-2003, 03:39 PM
Yea, it's smooth gliding over 3ft. rollers (kinda like air ride suspension). That's why I moved mine to the transom, I'm too busy trying to find the flags once a lap.
Besides, the crew already knows not to stand in the back when you start it in the pits.

Dave, be daring like me. I have the water dumps out the transom so it doesn't screw up the photo's. My race boats had them out the side, and once the green flag dropped I never checked them or the tach. Last race boat, we built a bezel for a Pro light in the dash and aimed it toward the driver. And yes you could see it even in the sun. Nice meeting you at RD's last weekend.

Dave, be normal like me !!! Have everything exit out the driver side. The engine cooling water. The bilge pump water. The V-Drive water. The beer cooler water. In fact run a water line from the cav plate to out the side just to have a spare and have guys ask what the heck it's for !!!!

I like havin the water exiting right there. Upon warm up, I hold my hand over the water until it almost burns me , then I know its safe to "MASH THE GAS"!!!

So I'm not gittin this whole circle thing???? The idea is what again??? Go really fast, flip a u-ture, go really fast again the other way...then what???
Is there any intimidation factor here??? Like being nutty enough to just take out the rest of the field??? when the urge strikes you???
Most importantly...What really seperates the men from the boys in this venue???

Dude, Its just like a drag race with a few added features... The straightaway is twice the distance of your usual 1/4 mile, each heat contains 8 individual drag races (sprints), you might have 8 guys next to you :D , if your good and your boat is set-up right you might pull over 2g's in the turns. Fun huh?

And then, it's a question of how hard you can accelerate once inside the turn. Does your boat turn tight, or does it skip to the outside? How tight is the turn? Do you scrub off a lot of speed, crank the wheel and nail the gas, or do you try the outside and keep your speed up all the way around the turn?
The most fun is when you have a boat that may not be as fast as the guy on your ass, but can turn tighter. If he gets too close by the end of the straight, and you have the inside lane, you can run a little bit wide in the entrance, and when you're 3/4 through, let off the gas to set the nose, crank the wheel, jump back on the gas and disappear. What you've done is squared off exit of the turn. By the time he figures out what you've done it's too late. You're gone!
God, I love that shit!
