Not missing anything. Was another post asking the same question a few weeks back. Basically, they took the option away from us members.

I agree it's rediculous- we shouldn't have to enforce maturity.

I find that hard to believe but accept that if you are saying it to be so.
Maturity has nothing to do with it.

... but if you do, I hope you enforce it one people at a time.

The other day someone posted a thread titled something like 50000th thread. Subsequently someone started deleting threads and the count dropped like 30 threads within less than an hour.
Also, there's been many an occasion when a long thread with much information in it posted by many has been taken out by the thread starter just because he or she didn't like the response they got or just changed their mind on a whim or just flat deleted a bunch of threads for no particular reason.
That isn't what a public information forum should be about. It should be about information. Therefore the forum setting was changed (just like it used to be before this software) to where you can edit your own posts but you can't take everyone else's down with you by deleting threads. If there's a legitimate reason for taking down a thread the moderators have that tool available. The vast majority of threads that have been deleted by folks though just haven't had any good reason.
There you have it.

WHY CANT WE DELETE OUR OWN THREADS ANYMORE
Kids have taken this forum over and are urinating on everyone.
The mods won't do anything about it,, so this keeps you from doing anything about it either.
If fact, it encourages it, and the mods want that.

TPC, you sound a little frustrated with the low level of moderation on this site.
If this is true, then I wish to share my perspective on it. I feel the moderation on this site is bang on. I really don't want anyone to tell me how to behave and I don't care how others behave. The site has some some operational needs that need to be met so they patrol the porn and advertising spam. That makes a lot of sense to me.
I feel the administrators here have been extremely liberal with their policies. They are even allowing free SPAM in the spam forum. This, when they're trying to sell advertising space. That's pretty stand up, IMO.
Anyway, I enjoy the level of trust we are given. Different people do different things with that trust but it has been a real enabler for real discussion. We've had petty arguments but they seem to blow themselves out over time. I have a lot of respect for ***boat and the people who run it.
My $0.02. :)

Some of the most awsum people & couples are gone from HB forums for one reason.
These are people and couples that are the first to respond to a HB family in need,, a tragedy that struck a HB family. Assistance to others beyond anything you could imagine.
They had the most interesting posts and experiences of anyone.
Think a bit in your mind & you'll remember the people that have bailed outta here.
I won't mention names.
I bump into them at roadside rests in route to and from the river, the sandbar,, restaurants at the river,,, Safeway in Parker,, Bashas in Havasu,, the Bluewater Casino, and we ask them what became of them?
Their response:
They post,, they get shit on by the kids that have taken this forum over,, the moderators love it and encourage it because it's why HB has far more hits than RRL, or HD or RRX,,, so they post no more.
And so we get threads that start out interesting, then the kids who have taken over jump in, reach into their diaper and pull out a freshly laid load of mud, roll it into a ball and sling it at everyone.
So you can't delete your thread because the mods love it.

I'm sorry, but you sir are wrong.
Do you know how difficult it is to moderate this place? There is such a wide range of members, it makes it almost impossible to make everyone happy. There is always someone whining on one side or the other.
All we can do is implement rules that will keep the site from being shutdown (porn, etc.), but since common courtesy is subjective, it is very difficult to mandate (since everyone has a different opinion on what it is).
If you see something you don't like, I encourage you to "report the post", or send a PM to a moderator. We look at every instance very seriously.
Hits have nothing to do with it- we just try to keep everyone happy, while trying to keep the site from being shutdown- not an easy task, I assure you.

Maybe he understands perfectly and simply doesn't agree with the current moderating philosophys. I think that's cool. As long as we respect each other, I feel disagreements can be a positive thing.

Not true sir. ***boat forum has guidelines (and not many as TB mentioned above). We handle spam, porn, threats of violence, off topic stuff in the tech forums (tough to be off topic in the sandbar) and various other issues ***boat want's monitored and handled. It has nothing to do with loving, encouraging, or hits. If you desire a highly moderated forum ***boat probably isn't it. Can't please everyone I guess.

I think that's the key, right there. It's a highly democratic process.
There are some really good sites that practice much higher levels of moderation. RRL is one example. I haven't been to HavasuDougs in a long time because of mental bandwidth limitations but it was a great little board back when I was there... and there are tons of others.
If you want a wide open, no rules. 'be careful not to step in that vomit' type of thing, there's HavasuBarney's. Hell... a couple of weeks ago some jackass posted a video of a guy taking two pints of beer up the ass... then he crapped it out into a glass... and another guy drank it. I don't know what you'd have to do to get a post deleted over there, never mind getting banned.
There's a site for everyone. I don't feel it's reasonable to come to a site and expect to adjust the rules and policies to your liking. There are tons of sites with a lot of the same people as this site but with less drama.
Personally, I'll go wherever my friends are. Friends are important. I don't care about the venue... just about the company.
