View Full Version : I think I Fupped Duck!!

When I bought my boat, the previous owner had a steel drain plug in the bilge drain in the jet housing. (Jacuzzi 12-WJ) It sat for about 8 years, so needless to say it was fused into the aluminum.
So I drilled it out using a 1 inch hole saw, the size of a standard rubber bilge plug. (or so it seems)
Well, the hole is about 1/16 inch too big, and no way a standard plug will seat and stay in.
Now, I've got some ideas how to repair it, without welding in an insert and re-drilling, but I thought I'd see if anyone has had a similar situation, before I go about re-inventing the wheel.

Alan, you could try a plumbing supply store. (not any in Parker) I have seen
rubber expandable plugs, like drain plugs for plumbing repairs. Maybe Craig
plumbing in Havasu.

tap it with a pipe tap and just run a pipe plug in there..

A weath of knowlege here and you ask for it after you already fuked it up?
Should I first give you ideas how you how you could of fixed it?

Actually I did ask first. Don't remember if it was here or not, but was told to drill it out with the hole saw. I also did measure, and it "should" have fit. I guess a little chatter made it slightly oversized.
I want this to be right. Drain plugs are the cheapest part on a boat, but by far the most important.

as far as I know hole saw's never leave a hole the size implied .

Hole saws tend to make a hole slightly bigger than the outside diameter'[as you discovered]. Go to boaters world and get the plug and sleeve. epoxy the sleeve in and you'll be good to go! Budlight

That's what I had in mind, and what I did.
It's setting up now, and when cleaned up and painted, will look almost stock.
Thanks all.
