Soory to hear.
I had the opposite experience. I was among the first to put a MAG/HO kit on a 2005 engine. The front plate didn't line up because Merc changed the idler pulley and belt routing in 2005. I e-mailed Whipple with a pic and got a response same day. They had just found out about the problem from another customer who was close enough to bring the boat in for measurements. Bottom line, I had the solution (a billet adaptor) fabricated, shipped and in my hands 5 days after sending the original e-mail.

Do you have any pictures of the current pully set up?

Use a long straight edge and make sure pulleys line up perfectly.
I had to shim my idler the thickness of 1 flat washer for perfect alignment.
