Taylor Jet

New to Jets and forum. I have a '76 Taylor SS w/ 460BBF/ Berk. 12JF. The boat ran poorly when I got it. So I changed the cam to Comp 268H, Performer RPM intake, Demon 850 DP, Holley Electric pump, And Proform HEI for Ford. It ran perfect for two consecutive weekends, but now it runs bad. This past weekend it would not idle, so I turned the idle screws a half turn each (not the mixture screws) to get it to idle. Once on the water it was somewhat down on power and stumbling at WOT. It ran hotter than usual 200 at idle, up from normal 170-180. There are no vacuum leaks, it is getting fuel. It left the water running like a champ, and went back in like a turd. Any ideas would help.

Check for water contamination in the fuel, and also check for water/mosture in the distributor cap.
Sleek

i'd have to hear it run to really help.could be quite a few things that could make it run that way.i'd start lookin at ignition first like kraig says, then fuel system, from there i'd be wondering if it has good spring seat pressure.the cam you installed might not operate correctly if the springs don't match or are weak.

If it ran fine, then the problem started is could be one of a few things:
- Ignition moved on you. Pretty simple to check.
- Got some dirt or crap in the carb (clean her out)
- A bowl screw may have loosened up (Tighten up everything before changing any parts)
- Check your valve lash as well.

Did you Re-torque the intake??

sounds like a headgasket went, back off the rocker arms and charge the cylinders up with air and see if valves leak, blown to the next cylinder over or to the coolant passages.

I had a similar problem, and just as Strech said: water in the fuel/water seperator (also a host of other issues.) Mine was full, so at WOT it would clog up and not allow enough fuel through. Also you could be running really lean and therefore hot. just my uneducated $0.02
