there's a 1978 cee bee avenger for sale not 1 mile from my house. called the guy, it has a fresh 460 ford and a untouched berkly pump. interior is shot and the gell coat is faded. 3000.00 will own it. should I buy it? investment?? on the fence with this.

$3k is the buy it price ad another $4k and you'll have a keeper. Give the guy $50 for a test ride and see if you fall in love... who knows...Chances are you can get it for a song 'cause he's given up! Maybe the deal of a lifetime. I'd check the transom for rot she's nearly 30 and you know nothing of her first 29 years.

I think I'll just back away from this one. I think its a fare deal, I have enough projects for now. if anyone is interested I can get a phone no. and take some pics for ya

IMHO the Avenger is a classic hull, and somewhat unique compared to my mini-daycruiser or the ubiquitous bubble-decks out there. Does it have a diverter? What exhaust? Refreshable Gelcoat? If it was a mile from my house I would at least take it for a spin.

FWIW the diverter itself is worth $500 used.
Here are a couple nice Avengers (not for sale that I know of) as examples of what it could be like someday:
Devilman's (from this forum):

And this one sold on eBay a while back:

The notched deck and the dark sunglasses are two really cool features.

those are a little different from the cee bee. it is a little more low profile with no wind shield!and ,yes, these are fine examples of the avenger hull!

Different model of an Avenger, but still a CeeBee. There were some with & without the windshield.... :rollside:
This is a 79 Avenger, somebody from the Corpus area owns it, or did own it. It was at Jetfest last year....

This is an earlier one, '74 I think. Transom doesn't look to be as rounded off as the later ones, but maybe it's just me....

These two pics I found on Roostwear's site awhile back in my search for info on these boats. Mucho thanks to Roostwear!
Old brochure showing all the different models....

I would say, it all depends on what you are looking for
3000 is a cheap way to get on the water.
but you probably want to be careful as to how much you want to
put into that boat, because you will never get it back out.
they are fun. and if your handy, you can do all the work and maintenance
yourself, and save big bucks.
hey.. it's a 30 year old boat. but I love those old classics. They have
a cult following. They are like the old apollo's, American, Jolly Roger...etc
correct
you happen to live in Spokane Wa?, because I saw a similar one in the wheel Deals.

scooter, I'm on the water, I just find it ironic I looked for 2 years for a jet boat in my area. I drive 12 hrs. (1 way) to get mine then a few months later this one shows up a mile from my house. :)

thanks for getting the pic on Dman. how you do dat????
uhh, now you gonna make me think...LOL.
I right-clicked the link you attached, copy the properties. Then when you post, click the "Insert Image" icon, looks like a little pic of a moutain. When you click that icon it opens up a small window, then paste the properties you just copied there & click ok. Then when you hit Submit, it should show up...
I hope I explained that right! :rollside:

is this your avenger or do you want to buy the one in the photo? wonder why the steering is on the pass.side?inboards are on the same side as cars!or was the photo transposed?knowing the cost of re-doing $3.000.00 seams really to high.
