I`m currently building a 21 ft. river cruiser from scratch, the bare hull will weigh around 1000 pounds , using a 7- 1/2 degree strut and a turbo trans and v-drive . about how far from the transome should the engine be. or where do most engines set in relation to the transome on this type boat. Most I have seen are in the 24 to 30" from the transom, BUT the placement of the strut and v-drive are far more important. I belive a nice round number for the strut is the end of the barrel 21-22" from the transom (Not the end of the cav plates!!!) and then put the v-drive wherever it needs to be. It will probably be between 96 and 100" from the transom.
Yall let the flaming begin!!!!

RCM. All three are important. Like Stab-N-Steer said check with V-Drive Tom first. The 1000 lbs sounds a little light, what hull is it

I got an e mail from Lee @ schiada a long time ago. I must have deleted it. :(
Anyway if I remember right he said he puts them between 19 and 28" in the higher performance boats and around 14" in the others.
My 20' schiada was at 14" and I'm moving it up as far as my back seat will let me. Sould fall right at 20 or so.

I'm going from a 9 degree bolt on strut (was not even recessed in the bottom) to a 7.25 degree drop thru. So the v drive will be moved also.
