View Full Version : New CP 19' Gets Wet

Slow Burn

We finally finished the 19' for my dad's retirement present. He deserves 10 more! It took a little longer than expected (14 months) as it was our 1st boat build and we did a majority of the rigging ourselves. The "CP factory" just wasn't willing meet my rigging specs................ With the help of good friends it finally came together. First full test pass GPS'd @93.5. Looking forward to the regatta.
Thanks Wayne Gaskamp, JimGuthrie, SoCalPower, Jack McClure and GS Marine.

See you on the water and have fun with the new ride. :)

The motor was built by Wayne Gaskamp and is basically a "tuned down" super comp set-up. It's 555 Dart, AFR heads with a single Demon that runs "pump" gas. No button.....yet...
Jim Guthrie helped us with all the motor mounts, brackets and installation. We also had all the aluminum parts chrome plated for looks and cleaning purposes. It was built to play all day at the sandbar and run 100+ with the boys in the evening.

GM Killer, thanks for the compliments and I look forward to meeting you at the regatta. Mistakenly, I'm not a big fan of the "F" word. What you see is a front drive distributor. If you look at the second picture from the top, you'll notice where it used to be. I've added this shot to show a little more. See ya soon..

DK, "I'm gonna rock onto electric avenue" you know the rest...can't wait. The entire weekend should be a blast. As for BS, it might be worth a call to get a free shirt(s).
LSCP, it helps assure accurate timing, gives a clean design to the motor and keeps people guessing...I'll post better pictures after this weekend.

Hey Mike,
I can tell you that we made some pulls on Bob Lambeck's Dyno because the motor is in a jet boat we only ran it up to 6200 at 6200 it made 780 hp with 702 foot pounds TQ its a 10.25-1 motor that way they can run pump gas in it I would have liked to run it up to 7600 to see what kind of power it really makes but it did not happen maybe next time see you at the river. And that is with 32 degree's timing total.

what do you figure it will make at that rpm, by the way it sounds good, very nice job. Do you plan on having the boys put nos to it?? seriously very nice piece. Hope to talk more at the river & thanx for your input on my motor, going gear drive this time.

The one used in this case does not appear to be that style. Based on the upright position of the distributor in the first and third pics in his first post, I'd say he is using something more along these lines. This style setup has been available for decades, long before the belt-drive style came out. Click pic for bigger version.

Chris.
Chris, I used the 335 AFR heads for this motor they have a nice intake and a ok exhaust port as far as the front drive goes there is no cam flex from front to back better timing only runing a half shaft in back for the oil pump a buddy of mine made some of these back in the early 70's I had one left so I used it on this motor OLD SCHOOL Plus it keeps everyone guessing. If you are looking for killer heads, BMF bye CFE are BAD good to 8000 and lite.

I told Pop's 800 hp single carb I think it would be close, but the boat is rite at 6000 so we need to get that up a few hundred RPM I will have two new intake grades to try, nos just think 250 horse unit on it might be fun and a easy way to get the extra RRRPMMM. and thanks

780hp@6200 is more like 660 lbs/ft
702 lbs/ft@ 6200 is 829hp.
Reason I noticed is my 467 makes 776@ 6200, and 658 lbs/ft. Near the same hp, no way that tq.

Josh, thanks but the boat belongs to a good freind of mine we were at the river for a few days last year siting on the point having a couple of beers and it came down to corvette or boat what would be the most fun with the grandkids, and if I would help build it and do the motor for it the rest is history I am sure they will have a good time. Jim is a great guy he help out a lot hope he shows.

Tq is measured, HP is calculated from Tq and rpm...has nothing to do with configuration of motor.

I have built a couple of single carb pump gas 580 ci motors that were tested at westech that made 800 hp and 780 ft lbs of torque. The larger displacement motors always make more torque. I believe in this thread they said it was 555 ci. That could be were the torque difference between yours and his.

yes it does because larger cid motors slow down piston speed therefore they should make more tq thats why everybody builds a big motor u just dont have to spin them that hard and still make good power.look u can get a smaller displacement motor to make those numbers you would just have to run it alot harder.
